Hello all. I'm a Patient Care Technician/Medical Assistant Student by day, and Nursing student working on prerequisites at night until I obtain a slot in clinicals.I graduate the PCT/CMA program in 2 weeks, and would really like to work in a hospital environment. Everyone website I check, ad I read, most hospitals require experience...

I've decided to send in my resume anyway, hoping someone at HR takes into consideration that I'm a college student as well. I'm determined to get into a hospital position, but am I over confident? Should I just apply to office jobs and start from there? I'm just wondering what are my chances of getting a hospital position? Any advice, tips, help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Somerset Medical Center hires PCT's without experience as long as you're a nursing student. I worked in the ER as a tech for a few months before I even started my full time LPN program. They put you through their own 2 week full-time training before you're on the floor.
Somerset Medical Center would be a dream for me! I actually live walking distance from the hospital. I applied online about 2 weeks ago, but I'm afraid the online way of applying for a job is not a help. I'm going to have to show my face at HR sometime this week. Hopefully, that will increase my chances of getting a phone call from them. Thanks a lot for the reply and info!
Sincerely,
Coolatta
BTW, how was your work experience at SMC?
Coolatta,
No, the online way did not work for me either! I'm trying to think of the woman's name from the Nursing Admin office, Connie something....... Just call there and ask for the woman in charge of hiring PCT's.
I don't have any experience working on the regular floors because I worked in the ER. It would be a little different for you now that they've opened the brand new huge ER. But the pace is fast and you get great experience.
I received a letter from SCTI in regards to my TEAS testing date...I finish my CMA/PCT course on 1/26, and just interviewed for a CMA position. Hopefully, I'll get the position. Now, I just have to decide if I should go the LPN route or wait for my slot at RVCC in the fall of 2006. I heard lots of good things about SCTI, so I just might decide to go for my LPN first. I need to do some serious thinking this weekend which can be accomplished with the snow storm headed our way!
Take care!
I might do the same as well. All this waiting is driving me nuts! If you don't mind, can I'd like some more info on SCTI...how would you rate the program, staff, curriculm? Do you wear uniforms? I also read they offer an evening program every two years. Do you know if they're in the middle of one, or if a new class starts in the fall of 2005? I hope so!
I plan to go evenings if accepted. I HAVE to work full-time so I can pay the bills...The little envelope in the mail today has changed my world a little...now back to my serious thinking. You can private message me if you prefer.
Keep warm in the snow storm!
