  1. Well he seriously claims he cannot walk. We finally did send him to the ER and although X-rays and a CT Scan were all negative, he still insists he cannot walk.
  2. Hi everyone. I've worked in a local county jail for about one year now and I'm wondering how others deal with this type of situation. We have a new inmate who insists on many medical problems such as back pain, stomach problems, coughing up blood, etc.. and that he needs to go to the hospital immediately for untreated conditions. Apparently he's complained of the same for years and has some psyche issues. He insists he needs multiple tests and puts up a fuss every time he sees a nurse. He has even gone limp to the floor yelling and screaming that the officers hurt his back and he can't walk or get up. He has since been literally dragged back to his cell. Any ideas?? We can't just send him out for the full body scan he's probably looking for! Thanks.
  3. I have an Excel chart I made of hormones while in nursing school but I can't seem to attach it here. I can email it to you if you contact me on private message... I don't know how to do that...
  4. I work for a county jail under PHS and I suppose it really just comes down to benefits. I haven't had a need to deal directly with PHS on anything so the only opinion I have is based on the benefits. They're not the best but certainly better than some. You pay into the health insurance, dental and vision but not a huge amount at all. I don't like their sick policy because unless you're out for several days with a Dr.'s note, you would have to use your vacation time if you call out sick for a day. That's all I can think of so far, but let me know if you have any specific questions.
  5. Typically, if you are working the weekend, you would have one day off prior and one day off following your weekend. So if you're working the weekend, you might, for example, work Mon-Thurs, off Friday, work Sat, Sun and then maybe have like Tuesday off. So you're still working just 5 shifts in the work week that starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.
  6. What county do you live in or are willing to travel to? There is a CNA program at Somerset County Technology Institute (www.scti.org) in Bridgewater.
  7. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'm currently in the SCTI LPN program. Have you already taken the entrance exam?
  8. Coolatta I don't post alot here, how do I private message you? poopie
  9. I'm in the LPN program at SCTI right now! I decided on this route instead of waiting for RVCC. I probably wouldn't have started RVCC until Sept '05 so I'll finish LPN, get working and then go back for the bridge program.
  10. Coolatta, No, the online way did not work for me either! I'm trying to think of the woman's name from the Nursing Admin office, Connie something....... Just call there and ask for the woman in charge of hiring PCT's. I don't have any experience working on the regular floors because I worked in the ER. It would be a little different for you now that they've opened the brand new huge ER. But the pace is fast and you get great experience.
  11. Somerset Medical Center hires PCT's without experience as long as you're a nursing student. I worked in the ER as a tech for a few months before I even started my full time LPN program. They put you through their own 2 week full-time training before you're on the floor.
  12. Melly06, The program was from October through mid December and consisted of varying lengths of about 2 days/week. Like we would have class from 1pm to 8pm once a week and clinicals from 3-11 another day. What I've seen so far for CNA salaries is about $10-$12/hr. Let me know if I can answer anything else for you.
  13. What part of NJ are you in? I went through the CNA program at the end of last year at Somerset County Technology Institute in Bridgewater. It was a good program, good learning experience - all clinicals were in a local nursing home. You can look at a sample of how they schedule the program on http://www.scti.org.
