Roll Call, LPN to RN Students!!!
I graduated from LPN school in May and began the RN Bridge program this summer. I currently work prn in corrections...a job that brings a daily dose of the unusual. Right now my interests for post RN graduation are ED and NICU, but my interests change quite frequently .

What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?
My story happened during my first clinical in the hospital setting during nursing school. I had not yet seen the multitude of lines that could be attached to a pt, and was overwhelmed at the sight of the IV lines, PEG tube, and trach tubing my assigned patient had. Keeping that in mind, I really had no specific knowlegde of open trach systems yet. So, later on I gave my pt. a bed bath, an activity where one naturally shares a close personal space with the pt, and I feel this nice, moist warm air on my face. I thought to myself "it feels so warm right here, this is nice," and about the same time I started to smell the distinct odor of.....sputum. That was when I realized that I was letting the humidified exhaust from the trach tubing blow right into my face, and I looked down and saw a puddle of choice sputum pooled in the trach tubing. So, that nice breeze I was enjoying on my face was flowing over sputum.....Needless to say, sputum is my "gross out" fluid.

Oh boy I am freaking out (HepB vax)
This post caught my attention as well. I had my third HepB Vaccine of the series this past March and I had a reaction to it. I did not have a reaction to the first two injections, but a few hours after the last one I began experiencing nausea, extreme soreness at the site, and had a fever. I didn't think much of it, just a typical vaccine reaction. About two weeks later I began to get a rash and at the time I didn't connect this with the vaccine. The rash worsened so I made an appointment with the Dr. and he told me the rash was Pityriasis Rosea. Still no connection at this point, but I did some research and found a connection with Pityriasis Rosea-like rashes associated with the HepB vaccine. I also found some information on the MS/HepB Vaccine link and it concerns me. I'm hoping that my experience ended with the rash, but the correlation is troublesome. SherBear, thank you for sharing your story, and I wish you well. Here are some links concerning rash/vaccine link. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10728450&dopt=Abstract http://www.aafp.org/afp/20040101/87.html Scroll towards the bottom of this site to see the info I'm referring to.

Soon-to-be LPN with a question...
Thanks to Nursemomruns and Poopie for sharing your info, I appreciate it. The interview went great, and I was impressed with the staff and the facility. The entire corrections environment was completely different from what I had expected, and I'm looking forward to getting started. Thanks.

Soon-to-be LPN with a question...
Greetings, This is my first post, but I have been lurking for some time;) . I am graduating from LPN school in a few days, and I am seeking some input from you guys. I have applied for a few varying nursing positions and PHS has called me back about a position at a county jail. I have researched this forum and found mixed reviews regarding PHS, but nothing super recent...So, can anyone share their experiences with me? Thanks.
