I grew up near Tyler. It is a beautiful town with a small town feel, lakes nearby, etc.
Be careful about proceeding though without spending some time to get a feel for the place. It is an UBER conservative town (i.e. religious) with a LOT of underlying racial tensions (higher than in bigger cities). It is also what I call a "new money" town and there is a major emphasis on appearances, stuff and money.

Hi,
I worked in Tyler for 2 1/2 years. I was not from East Texas, but I loved it there. Currently, I am doing travel nursing and then off to grad school in the fall. I see that you are an LVN. The hospitals there heavily staff the med-surg units with LVNs and can always use someone with experience.
I enjoyed Tyler. The people are soooo friendly and within a few weeks you are family. Tyler is a decent size. You have all the basics with access to larger cities, i.e. Dallas with 1 1/2 hours. Yes, as the previous poster stated it is a very religious, conservative city. I did not realize that when I moved there, that I would be moving to the middle of the Bible Belt. Honestly, it didn't bother me. Yes, there is alot of "new money" there but, also, old money too. Tyler isn't far from the East Texas oil patch. If you want to leave the rat race of DFW, Tyler is a great place.
Anyway, if you want to know more Private Message me.

Hi and welcome to Tyler! This really is a great place to live. I have been here 18 years and can't imagine going anywhere else. Tyler is a rapidly growing city with a small town feel. Like the other post, it is very conservative and rich (old time money) but very modern as far as technology goes. And very medical! I am applying to the nursing program this fall and hope to work at Trinity Mother Frances when I get through. There are so many places that you can work in Tyler, so you definitely have lots of choices. My husband works at TMF and loves it, and being a Christian (after all, this is the bible belt!!) that is what I have my sights on. They are very Christian oriented and my experiences with the hospital have all been very positive. Having 4 young kids (ages 7-12) we visit the ER regularly!! Good luck in your job search and again, welcome to Tyler!
