  1. I'm in the same boat. I am waiting to schedule my exam. Today, I called the ANCC, and they gave me the info to schedule the exam but I can't schedule it until Wednesday. I'm with you on the frustration part. To add to your list: 16) Have your mom tell you again that you WILL pass the exam. 17) Go shopping for clothes for the new NP job. 18) Pack since I am moving back to the great state of Texas. 19) Watch another episode of pathetic reality tv. 20) Think about picking up an extra shift at work but nahhh! Good luck on your exam!
  2. Hi, I am a graduated from the UT Tyler RN-BSN program. If things are the same, you can go into the program with any length of experience. I was enrolled in the program right out of my ADN program. The RN-BSN at UTT is geared toward people that are already working as a RN. I found this program very easy to complete. The only tedious thing is that the first year you have to take history and other pre-req classes. Good luck!
  3. I just finished my first specialty year at YSN in the oncology NP program!! Woohoo! I love it. There are plenty of people who love to gripe about things but there are those people everywhere. PM me with any questions or anything.
  4. Hi, I worked in Tyler for 2 1/2 years. I was not from East Texas, but I loved it there. Currently, I am doing travel nursing and then off to grad school in the fall. I see that you are an LVN. The hospitals there heavily staff the med-surg units with LVNs and can always use someone with experience. I enjoyed Tyler. The people are soooo friendly and within a few weeks you are family. Tyler is a decent size. You have all the basics with access to larger cities, i.e. Dallas with 1 1/2 hours. Yes, as the previous poster stated it is a very religious, conservative city. I did not realize that when I moved there, that I would be moving to the middle of the Bible Belt. Honestly, it didn't bother me. Yes, there is alot of "new money" there but, also, old money too. Tyler isn't far from the East Texas oil patch. If you want to leave the rat race of DFW, Tyler is a great place. Anyway, if you want to know more Private Message me. ks
  5. Hi Lee, I am currently on assignment in Nashville at Vanderbilt. I LOVE it here!!! If I wouldn't be going to grad school, I would renew my contract. The people here are very nice and supportive to the travelers. I haven't felt like I have been dumped on, as with other assignments. In fact, many of the staff want to start traveling at some point. Nashville is also a very fun city. There is always some music event (and not just country music) going on. There are great restaurants and shopping. This week on one of my days off, I am going to the Belle Meade Plantation. This is a real, live working plantation!! So, yes, I would encourage you to look into traveling to Nashville. The only drawback is the pay rates may be somewhat lower because it is in the south, where there are traditionally lower pay rates. ks

Hi WIRN, My first travel assignment was in NYC. Boy, that was sure a learning experience!!! NYC is not an easy place to work by any means. There are cultural differences, language barriers, technology deficits, staffing shortages, etc - must I go on. I completed my 3 month assignment and was out of there. I have since traveled to Yale-New Haven Hospital and, currently, I am at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. This is my 3rd and last assignment, because I have been accepted to grad school and will be working on my NP. Good luck in NYC. I didn't mean to scare you. I had no idea what I was walking into when I traveled to NYC. In retropect, I am glad I did it. I grew alot as a nurse and as a person. Good luck!
  7. I will be starting my first travel nurse assignment this month. It is at Beth Isreal in NYC on their oncology unit. I am totally excited and ready for a new challenge. I have been wondering how do you keep up with your mail, i.e. bills, when you are traveling? Do you have them sent to your current assignment address? Also, I use my computer quite often to keep up with friends and family via email. How do you retain internet access? I was planning on only having my cell phone when I travel. Would I have to get a land line service at each assignment location? Thank you.
  8. I am considering taking an assignment from Medical Express. The assignment is in NYC. Has anyone ever traveled with this agency? Any good or bad experiences? I am very nervous about traveling for the first time; I want this to be a very good experience. Any helpful advice is gratefully accepted. Thanks!

I am considering traveling nursing, if grad school doesn't work out for me to begin in September, sort of a backup plan. I'm an oncology nurse with 2 years experience. I've spoken with Aureus, Fast Staff, and Medical Express. They all sound about the same. I feel sort of lost as to where is the best place/agency for me. How do you choose an agency to work with? And after an agency is chosen, how do you choose the right assignment? Has anyone had good or bad experiences with these or other agencies? Any suggestions on other agencies?
  10. Sounds like you did well enough on the GRE to meet most school's requirements. I have spoken to grad schools all over the country and it sounds like a 500 on each section is a pretty universal number. What grad program are you applying to? I am taking the GRE next Tuesday -- yikes!!!!! This is the last part of my application process. I was orginially planning on starting grad school in January then I found out that I only could begin in September. So these past few weeks have been a whirlwind. I sent in my application last week. I am applying to the oncology nurse practitioner program. I am really nervous about everything getting there on time and getting in this fall. Otherwise, I will have to wait until next year. Good luck with you application!!!!
