I have been offered a position at Johnson City Medical Center and would like to get some feedback from nurses who work there or know something about this facility. I am planning on leaving Dallas and Group One and it seems like Johnson City is a very nice place. Thank you in advance.

I worked for JCMC as a "Nurse Intern" before graduating, and my aunt has worked as an RN there for years. What unit are you going to? It's a nice little area there, and the hospital is pretty nice. Have you visited yet? What questions do you have?
It is a position in the chest pain center which I understand is 12 beds and is more or less a holding area to determine whether or not to admit. I have not been to the area but I am originally from upstate NY and I love the mountains and forests but not the harsh winters. It seems that the hospital has a lot of vacancies. The pay is a major drop from here BUT the cost of living is lower except the state sales tax which is higher. I am just trying to find out if there is a major turnover there especially that unit or it is just attrition. Thanks!

Northeast Tennessee is a nice place to live......close to the mountains, 4 seasons without the extreme heat or cold of southern or northern US.
Johnson City Medical Center is part of the MSHA health system. You might want to also check out Wellmont Health Systems which is another large hospital system in the area.
Thank you for the information. Is Wellmont a better facilty in your opinion?
They are both good health systems. Johnson City Medical Center is the largest of the MSHA system and Wellmont Holston Valley in Kingsport is the largest of the Wellmont system.
How do Johnson City and Kingsport compare? Thanks!

I work at JCMC and love it here. Originally from MI so there was a big difference in the pay, but living here has been a great move for us. It is my understanding that the pay scale for this area is just about the same unless of course you go to work for the VA hospital, but then you don't have the same learning options as if the patient has any kind of serious illness they are sent to JCMC for treatment. We have been here for a year now and I can't imagine living anywhere else...the views are spectacular and the pace of living is slower. Hope this helps
Thank you so much for the information. I am getting excited about moving to JC. I wanted to move years ago but did not have a position. It's all go now.

Hi, I moved from California to accept a position with JCMC, and honestly I can say it was a good decision, I do miss Cali but the experience and the staff here at JCMC is great. I am a new grad by the way. I really think if you decide to accept the job you won't regret it. Good Luck

Back before I became a nurse, I had a GI bleed (I think ecoli poisoning) the ER gave me IVF and sent me home (well I was visiting from out of town, so to the hotel) Thankfully it stopped on it's own in about 48 hours. I don't know if it's because I didn't have insurance at the time, but I can't imagine not admitting a pt at least for obs who was passing large amounts of frank blood with severe abdominal pain.
This was about 10 yrs ago though before they became magnet..hopefully it's better now!
xdriggs........Just was wondering if you have moved yet? Would be interested in hearing an update.
