Infection control NCLEX.

Published

Hi guys. I'm kinda confuse about infection control. . i know in Airborne you have to close door and has negative pressure and wear N95. Droplet you must be 3 ft away from the patient wear mask and googles ( doors can be left opened) . I'm concern about Contact precaution, i know you must wear gloves and gown, BUT I DONT KNOW IF I AM GONNA LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN OR NOT. Please help! Or any infos you can add?

Well if on droplet precautions, she would have to wear a mask.

I just found another thread that I am reading, it is helpful:

hi guys, this Contact precaution question is a little tricky.

is the care appropriate if a Nursing assistant wears a gown and takes a BP to a patient with respiratory infection (RSV) ?

I would think it would be correct to wear a gown. #1 the nursing assistant is in contact with a contact precaution pt--so that would lead me to believe that yes, she needs a gown according to contact precation rules. #2 The CNA's type of interaction (taking BP) with the pt could cause their clothes or skin to brush up against an inadament object that is infected or even the pt. As a result they could infect other pts or themselves.

However, depending on the question it could be wrong because there is no mention of a mask. Which I believe is also needed with RSV (I believe it is also droplet)

Now ya got me thinking......

I would love to hear the answer and explanation

The thread that I sent you has good posts...

Gowns are worn if one comes in contact with body fluids - when splashing make occur, doing care on antibiotic resistants patients - MRSA or Vancomycin Resistant, broken lesions, C. Difficile.

Masks are worn for airborne precautions, keeping in mind that with TB you need to wear a N95 mask to be put on before going in the room, I also belive the same hold true for Measles.

This is the way I know as of now... please by all means consult your textbook, I would feel terrible if I am giving you the wrong information, and I do welcome corrections.

RSV is contact and droplet!

Viral Meningitis pt's are placed on isolation.

would like to add to this that initially all suspects of meningitis are put in isolations. CSF is drawn and tested for glucose.

viral is the more common and less serious.

bacterial is harder to fight and more contagious.

bacteria bad

viral visit (with friends)

that's how I remember them.
