A lot of the Indy area is going BSN preferred. From what I've heard it's tight, but my floor has hired several people recently. It can be done! Check out IU Health, Community, St. Vincent, and St. Francis to cover your bases for hospital jobs. There may be others that I don't know about also.
Indy hospitals are getting back on their feet after all the major layoffs last summer and managers are finally being given the green light to hire, though it's still somewhat limited. Hospital options: St Vincent (Indy, Carmel & Fishers), IU Health (facilities downtown, Carmel, & Avon), St Francis, Community (all 4 sides of town), Eskenazi (formerly Wishard, downtown), Riverview (Noblesville).
As far as outside a hospital setting, I can't be of much help. Each of those hospital systems have physician offices and clinics, however they most likely won't pay what a hospital pays. Nursing Home & LTAC systems prominent in the Indy metro are American Senior Communities, Kindred, and CarDon.
I really haven't heard much about Eskenazi since they opened. I'm sure everyone likes the facility much better than they did Wishard, but further then that I'm not sure. They are still the county hospital thus receiving a lot of the un/under insured, as well as victims of most of the city's violence and county inmates. Not that the other trauma centers in the city don't, Eskenazi just seems to see more.

Hi everyone,
I'm actually writing this on behalf of my husband who is an RN. We currently live in Columbus, Ohio where he works for a really well known hospital (part of OhioHealth). It's not exactly what he wants to be doing (currently bedside in an observation unit and also has med surg experience) but it's a great company and he enjoys his coworkers. He's been there for 2+ years so he does have some experience.
With that said, I took a job in Indianapolis and we have to relocate by July 1. When we first decided to make the move we thought it wouldn't be too difficult for him to find work but the more we read the news related to layoffs and evening shift differential being cut it really scares us. We're not sure he'll be able to find any job, let alone one he will enjoy. He has thought about checking out Wellpoint for other options, as he's been wanting to get out of the hospital environment and maybe something with Monday-Friday hours.
Does anyone have any insight into the Indianapolis job market for someone with a couple of years of experience and great references?
Any insight is appreciated!
