Indonesian Student on quest for RN

World International

Hi, my name is tommy and I'm from Indonesia.

I've been in the US since 2002 first to study for my MBA. And I soon finish my MBA and now want to switch to become a RN.

Now I took classess to satisfy some prerequisites for ADN and Second Degree BSN here in Lexington, KY. So I wonder whether I have taken the right path?

I planned to apply locally but the competition is tough for ADN in local community college. The BSN program only admit 10 person a year.

I'm willing to move to other states. The reason why I want to stay is scholarship/ tution reimursement program by hospital for RN. SO if any of you could have advice on what school and where, it'll greatly appreciated.

For your info, I have ACT 25, NLN test 98 %.

Second, I now hold F1 visa and after reading several thread I have an impression about the prospect of getting job after graduating RN is still complicated for foreign student like me. IS there any limit or law about what nationality to be given preference for RN licensing? I'm about to dedicate time and money in the nursing school. So I hope I could get an insight from you all about this issue and I could breath easier.

ANy Indonesian RN or Malay currently in the US are welcome.

Thanks :)

There is no problem with finding a job or getting sponsorship. The problem that nurses from China, India, and the Philippines are having is because of a new immigraton policy in effect only covering them. This should be straightened out before you even finish school, but doesn't have anything to do with your visa.

If you have gotten an OPT for your MBA, or are considering doing this, be aware that you can get only one................they will not give you one when you graduate with RN, if you have already had one.

I wouldn't worry about any of this, you should be just fine..............

By the way, which island are you from?

Thanks for the information Suzanne. :)

I'm from island of Bali.

Anyway, have you been to Indonesia before.

Have you meet with Indonesian nurse in this forum before?

I just returned from living in Bangkok this past July..................

I was in Bali many years ago, and worked with a company based out of Jakarta.

In Penang, Malaysia last May..................
