Recommendations for another class??

U.S.A. Indiana

I have 10 credits for the semester...and I am thinking of adding another 2 or 3 (online course). I have no idea what else I could do (I don't want to do co reqs or pre reqs), I want to up my hours to receive my state grant, the extra Pell Grant money will help me out big time with daycare. I am thinking of doing something fairly low maintenance that will also help me with my career. Any suggestions?? I have looked at Infant/Toddler Growth and Development (which might not help in nursing, but then again I am sure it could since we learned about some of that in Psych), Med Terminology, but I can't think of any others I could take. Suggestions? TIA!

I am in the same boat! Have you taken the required IVY class? Are you planning on furthering your education and work towards your BSN? Are you in the ASN program at Ivy Tech?

If you are interested in a BSN down the road, there are classes you can take at Ivy Tech that will transfer to IUPUI. I added an econ 101 class to take me to full-time. There are other options as well, which I can email to you if you are interested. That way you will have a list of classes to take if you need a few extra hours and then you won't have to worry about taking them later!

Hi,

Can you email me also. I will be going for my BSN after so any info would be appreciated!

Thanks

Brenda :)

That would be awesome!! I haven't decided yet, but going for my BSN might be an option. I am not in the ASN program yet, just doing pre reqs. My required IVY class is already on the schedule for the fall semester (a whopping 4 weeks long!). Even anything that may help me understand my professional core classes would be awesome too.

I am taking MAT 118, IVY, ENG 111, and ANP 101.

Specializes in DD, HHC, Med Surg, PCU, Resource.

My ASN program is Part-time so, I am taking classes that can be used for my BSN at IUK to up my my status to full-time.

This semester I am taking CINS 101 online. I am hoping it is fairly easy.

In order to find out what classes are req. for a BSN I looked online to find the curriclulm at IUK for the RN-BSN bridge.

Then I looked at transferin to see which classes are transferrable. I will have 7 classes for the BSN to take in gen ed courses. I'm hoping to get as much done as possible so I can just worry about the nursing pods during BSN.

I am so geeky I even made a spreadsheet of what classes I need and will take along with what I have already taken LOL!!

I love planning !!!

HA I also have my own "plan" as me and my coworker call it (she's going for the same as me). I have my entire schedule mapped out until I get into nursing school haha.

KGLE....since you are at Ivy Tech there is a 2 credit course called Conversational Spanish...no lie, show up=get an A. There is almost 0 homework, and the book looks more like a pre-school coloring book than any text book I've ever seen. Seriously, pm me, you can have my $17 book!!! I just can't tell you how easy that class was if you just need the credits!!

I also have the MAT 118 book that I'll sell for CHEAP! (just took it last semester, if you did good in mat050, if you took it, 118 is almost the exact same thing)

Really? Is it offered online? I was really trying to do an online class, because if I add another classroom class I have to pay more for daycare and I am already paying almost 600 a month!

I did take MAT 050 and the only reason I don't have a 98 in that class is because I didn't go to like 5 classes. Super easy for me. Glad to hear 118 isn't bad! I am doing that online!

I don't think it's online because its "conversational" spanish, but not 100% sure. also, its a short one day a week, I have 2 kids too and took it in the evening and sent them to a friends house to play for a couple hours (trade-offs) mine were 10 and 12, so that prob made it easier.

and as for the 118, there was nothing new to it until the last 2 weeks, otherwise it was almost exactly like 050 (i took 111 and cried everyday for the first 2 weeks and then dropped it, so i don't know why everyone doesn't take 118!!!) :chuckle good luck, though you won't need it! you've got an easy semester ahead of you!!! :p

and just cuz i can't seem to shut up,:typing I just saw that youre taking anp101... if you have the book, start memorizing all of the directions (transverse, superior, caudal, hypogastric, etc) and regions (i.e.-brachial, antecubital, popliteal, etc) BEFORE class starts and you will be milesssss ahead...and if youre an overachiever memorize the bones too! makes for an easy A just to have those few things done before you get there! (actually, it may be the difference btw an A and a B, the first test seemed to get the lowest grades overall because there was sooo much memorization for it) and noone got into the RN program this time with any B's just my :twocents: if you have ANY questions or need help with it pm me, I loved that class!!!! and have 500 stupid sayings to help with memorization! hope you got Mr. Evans!

Specializes in ICU/ER.

Lots of options for you. If you want an easy A, take a dance class or some phys ed class--you will need something like that for your BSN anyways...

If you want to actually learn somehting that will help you in your nursing classes take a Med Term class...this will be valuable later. Dont need it for your ASN or BSN though, but it will help.

If you have a pretty easy semester and want to take a class you will need for your BSn but will need to actually study and do homework in, get statistics out of the way, 99% of the BSN programs require it.

I was fortunate enough to have all my ASN pre-reqs done before I started clinicals, so to get the full scholarships I had to go full time, that meant back filling with other classes to get the req 12 credits. I took all sorts of BSN classes through out my ASN program.

So now that I am pursuing my BSN there are only a small handfull of classes (stats being one of them) that I must take.

I have Stephen Noe for my teacher for ANP...and I have heard horrible things about him!

I am thinking of taking Medical Terminology online, but I don't know if it would add more stress...Its definitely a class I will be taking before nursing school though.

By the way, I can't even take 111 anymore! We were told they are phasing it out, and if you aren't applying for at least a year you shouldn't take it because it won't count.
