Hi all.

I have been a nurse for 8 years. I am currently an employee at a local hospital in NY. I have recently taken interest in something called Indepent nurse contractor. I am tired og being an employee. I want to be my own boss, I want to make more money, I want to be in control of my schedule. Is there anyone out there who can help me? I am looking for some type of manual or information to get me started. I just do not know where to begin.

Thanks! Stayce:nurse:

Check out the Entrepreneur forum under Specialty then Nursing Specialties, or search for "independant contractor".

There are quite a few discussions here on that subject.

Also be aware that there are specific requirements per the IRS and perhaps your state, suggest that you also speak with your tax advisor so they can tell you what will work best in your situation.

Hi, Im in the same boat. I have 8 yrs clinincal experience also except Ive been considering self employment/business owner for at least 5yrs. now. My children are older now and im ready to make a move. I have explored many different options. im just truing to find the right one. i like flexibility. ive work flexible hours my whole nursing career. i recently focused on the indepentent contractor. i like home care. i like surgical care. i like acute care. i like home infusion care. i like wound care. can anyone tell me if as an independent contractor whether i have to focus on one specialty? if not, would this be too overwhelming? if not should i seek certification in any of these areas?
