  1. Would you signup for an In-person General Nursing skills course? After graduation to prepare for first job or re-entering nursing.

    • Yes, I would pay for this course.
    • No, not necessary.

I'm interested in stepping away from bedside nursing and starting my own business outside of the hospital. I remember when I graduated nursing school (2011), I looked all over for an in-person skills class. I found plenty online but not many live ones. Would you consider this type of course to prepare for your first job in nursing or returning back into the field after a break?

I would be sure to look into your state's BON requirements for a refresher course, as many may look to this type of course in order to become eligible to reinstate a lapsed license. There are things that are required to be done, and it is likely that an approved refresher course will be far more successful than one that doesn't help reach a goal of licensure.

I absolutely would, but I'd want someone teaching it that actually still works bedside (even per diem).  I know from experience that once you step away from bedside, skills can go pretty quickly, and you lose touch with current trends, technology and practice changes.
