I'm interested in stepping away from bedside nursing and starting my own business outside of the hospital. I remember when I graduated nursing school (2011), I looked all over for an in-person skills class. I found plenty online but not many live ones. Would you consider this type of course to prepare for your first job in nursing or returning back into the field after a break?

Get your ACLS and TNCC! Try to really learn them and not just past!!

Thanks everyone. The manager seems very reasonable. To be honest I got the job through a connection and that is why I am worried about hard feelings. If that weren't the case I wouldn't reveal it but I feel like I owe them honesty since they hired me upon my connections recommendation. I don't start for another month though all of the paperwork has been signed and completed. I may tell them in the next couple of weeks or may just wait until I complete my week long orientation (at that point I will be more valuable).

Hi all and happy New Years. I have a question and was wondering if you all could give me some advice. I work at a hospital and our sister hospital recently posted an opening (which is hard to get into) so I applied. I was offered the position and gladly expected. My dilemma? I found out that I was pregnant shortly after I accepted the position. Due to some delays in the transfer process I will be 15 weeks pregnant when I finally start. What is etiquette when it comes to telling my new boss? Should I tell them before I start or should I just wait until I have complete orientation and am much further along? I would lean toward not telling them until I absolutely had to but I really don't want to burn this bridge. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I went to school in Ca and got hired on in ER only one hour away from my home. It took me 10 months of applying to jobs but I eventually found something. Why don't you try a hospital in Fresno or maybe a hospital in southern ca? At least you will be in ca? If you want to stay in ca I wouldn't sell yourself short. I got hired with 5 new grads so it is definitely possible. Good luck!!
