I took a couple of science classes as Truman before transferring. What kind of information are you looking for? I tried to apply for the RN program there but was denied - they required a reading and vocabulary test which was very hard (actually kind of ridiculous). Let me know what kind of info you are looking for and I try to help...
I need all information, why in you opinion was the exam so difficult?
Did you take your pre-reqs there?
How where the pre reqs?
Why is it so difficult to be excepted into the actual nursing program?
I just need a general idea, i havent been in school for years now and don't evn know where to start...i'm really confused.
I think taking pre-req's at Truman would be fine. I started my pre-reqs there but got into the nursing program at Saint Xavier (BSN) and decided to finish my science classes there (they did not require me to finish your pre-reqs before being accepted into the nursing program).
It has been a couple of years since I was at Truman but the classes I took there were good. I guess the only thing I didn't like was the pre-nursing test. It involved defining 100 words in a minute or two of minutes - it was just silly. I don't know how competitive the program is now, I'm sure you would do fine.
It's a good school to get started at - nice and cheap! They offer all of the pre-req classes you need. The classes aren't terrible easy or hard. But you need to be prepared to work hard to get into any nursing program - everything is getting really competitive! I would go in and see one of the advisors they can let you know what you will need to take (I don't know what classes you have taken previously). I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there. I'm currently a second year nursing student at Truman college. What do you need to know about the program? I'd be happy to answer some questions. I took all my pre-requisites there. I already came in with a Bachelor's degree, but I took my A & P, microbiology, and pharmacology before and during the program.
It is difficult to get into the program because so many qualified people apply. They only accept 100 per year. Last year (not the year I got in), they were forced to do a lottery to pick at random the students who could join the program.
Every year around 10-15 people drop out or fail unfortunately. By the time you graduate, about 70-80 are left.
They have limited resourced and teachers. But the education quality is so-so. You need to be motivated to learn. I see several students who don't put as much effort and they tend to not do so well.
Their website is: http://www.trumancollege.cc/academics/department.php?DeptNo=33
You can email me personally if you have more questions.

Truman has been great for what it is. I already have a masters from a very prestigous private school and it was initally shocking to attend my first class there, but I think the instructors are decent, my classmates are all working on pre-reqs, so I feel some comraderie. The lottery system stinks, but at least it allows Truman to be true to its mission as a community college, reaching out to its community of diverse students which include people who don't get 4.0s but will still make great nurses.

Hey everyone,
I am thinking of taking Chem 212 Survey of Organic and Biochem at Truman. How is the course? Format of exams and quizzes? Any suggestions in preparation before and during the course?
Any input is greatly appreciated!!!
Hi there,
What is it you'd like to know about Truman? I just finished their 2 year program (yea, I graduated!). The pre-reqs took me about 1 year to complete. I took biology (general), Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology there. I still had some prereqs that were valid from my bachelor's degree. You must finish all your science requirements prior to the beginning of the 2nd year of your nursing degree.
Yes, you do need to have to take English 101 and 102 (I was waived from this because of my previous degree).
You need to take a math exam to avoid taking math classes (I passed).
They have a very stupid test called the Nelson-Denny test. It's a vocabulary/English test (If I remember correctly). Basically, you get maybe 10 minutes to complete as many of the 50-60 questions as you can! Personally, I think it's retarded, but hey, I passed that too.
I also had to take a Constitution test because I didn't graduate from a high school in Illinois. That was stupid, it was take-home, but very difficult.
Overall, the program is worth it if you're dedicated to being a nurse. I think the quality of the instructors is pretty good for most of them. They are making some changes to the curriculum. The administration is FRUSTRATING and they are really disorganized, so you got to take intiative to get what you need.
The program itself is quite full and every year, there are returning students who failed the previous year. The grading system is quite high: I believe 92% above is an A, 84% is a B, etc.
Good luck with applying.

Does Anyone know about the area at Truman College. I am not that familiar with Chicago..and I will not have a car. So, how is transportation and is it in a nice part of Chicago? Anyone who can let me know it would be great! Thanks

The area Truman is located at is called Uptown, it's a really nice neighborhood in terms or architecture and history (Al Capone used to hang out at some establishments there and may have even lived there) but the neighborhood is in a state of transition. There is lots of new development bringing in young professionals, but unfortunately there is still some riff raff left from less prosperous years. It's not horribly bad, but it isn't crime free either; this is a large city afterall. Getting there is easy if you live by the Red line CTA, there is a stop that literally drops you off at Truman (it's the Wilson stop). The area is also kinda close to the Lake.

I have a Bachelors degree and have completed all the nursing prereqs within my major at the University. Since I did not take the prereqs at a community college will they also look at my cumulative GPA or just my GPA for the required prereqs? My cumulative is 3.162 and my GPA for the prereqs is along the lines of 2.5-.275. So what do you think? Can they also take the higher grade for a certain prereq. For example English 101 I got a C because my teacher was a prick he gave everyone C's but I'm an excellent writer. In my Research Writing course which is higher level 102 I received an A in. So would they be able to take this A instead of the C? I checked their transfer guide for biology and Trumans is equivalent to my BIO 198 which I got a C in but I recieved a B in BIO 197 which at their institution is higher level than my BIO 198. Will they take the B?
