In need of some study tips!

Published

Hello! I'm starting my first semester as an ADN student this fall and would like some study tips. I know I will be studying several hours a day for the next few years and I just need some tips that will help me effectively memorize the material so I can apply them to my tests. Thank you so much in advance! Good luck to all the future nurses!! :)

Sometimes I do but very rarely.. I've always been like that when it comes to studying even before nursing school.. And I learn by reading over and over and over so it's just how I am :-))

How do you not get burnt out??

You will get burned out. Especially of you've been taking pre-reqs for a while. You just have to push through an take it little by little. Don't get overwhelmed.

I agree with one post on here, LEARN it honey!! They have taught us memorization all throughout your grade school years and that has been a terrible idea!! LOL. I am going into my third semester. I failed one class with a 74. I needed a 77 to pass. I ended up getting put back an entire semester because I was not fully prepared on how to study for these classes. I got set back an entire semester and was supposed to graduate in December of 13 and now I graduate in May of 14. This is what I did:

1. I read the chapters before the class

2. Listen to lecture and see what your teacher's really emphasize (my teachers do not give a lot of powerpoints so reading was/is my best friend)

3. I read the chapter a second time and it became easy to pick out what was really the most important things to really know about certain disease processes so I wrote up my own study guide..

4. Saunders NCLEX is really good.. F/E was something I really struggled in when i failed that one time.. NCLEX makes it much easier to understand and highlights really what you need to know!!

I did not do any of this that first semester and now I do it and guess what? I made all A's and B's the semester I repeated and made all A's and 2 B's this semester (my B was actually a 92! Yes, a 92 ).... I live an hour away from home and on weeks that I know I have a test the next week, I do not go home.

Basically, study hard and make it your priority!!! You can do it!! Lol I did not think I could and really.. Repeating a semester was the best thing that could ever have happened to me!! Good luck!
