Im an LPN attending RN school in upstate NY. This is our first week of school and we had a math test today. We have 3 attempts at it, if we fail that we're out of the program. We're allowed 2 wrong. I got 3 wrong. (stupid mistakes from nerves.) Anyway, I am really bummbed out. Anyone out there who can relate? Any suggestions on getting rid of the nerves?
I get so nervous, I can bearly write:crying2:

It is nerve wracking but you can do this! What I would do is re-work all the problems before turning in my exam if you have time. We had to get 100% and more than once I did find a stupid mistake when I re-checked. Good luck!!!

Listen, we have all been there, but I have found that being prepared and knowing the material is the best thing you can do for nerves.Definately check your work over and over. I am usually the first one done with my test and the last one to hand it in!
Thank you for the advice and encouragement. I usually san through my work to make sure I answered all of them, but I never re-work them, that's a good point. Thanks so much!

Our school has the same policy. 10 questions, 3 attempts, you can only get 1 wrong. Is there not another student who is good at nursing math that can remediate with you? Most times I have seen that another student can explain this stuff to you better than the teacher. Also, sometimes a teacher will print out a practice test for you to take at home (they have a data base full of these). There is also a real good math study book. Email me if you want the name of it. Good luck
Thanks jcjcan,
I've since re-taken the dreaded math test and passed it. THANK GOD! I didn't realize just how stressed I was! My instructor showed me the three that I missed. One of the answers was .2 (I forgot to put the point) stuff like that. MY nerves were really shot that day Anyway thanks everybody for helping me through. jcjcan, we have IV calculations coming up soon. Do you know a good review book for that? Thanks.
Good for you! It's amazing what nerves can do to us. Now don't start worrying ahead of time about the next math task. I, luckily, was good in math and would be glad to help you in any way I can. By the way, just to let you know, I am a 58 year old former teacher who had decided to go into nursing at this late stage of my life. Pretty crazy, huh? I have just three months to go to get my RN. Believe me, I hear all these stories and think what was I thinking when I did this!! But I am hoping that it will be worth it. I am probably the oldest one in my program and that includes most of the instructors! The math book that we used was called Calculation of Drug Doses" by Sheila Ogden and it really explains the calculations clearly. Our instructor flew through the formulas and we only had math 1 day a week for 2hrs, so we did have to learn on our own. Like I said, try to find a buddy, but I will help you if I can. It's not as hard as you think.
JCJCAN,
