In need of child care

Hi,

I was offered a position to work in DC but I have a 4 month old and I'm a single mom. I thought my mom would come along to help, but turns out she's changed her mind. Its at a hospital and shift work, so a regular day care won't work for our schedule. The only option I see is a nanny, but that's super expensive. Does anyone already have a nanny and want to enter a nanny share arrangement? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Or is anyone in my shoes and willing to watch my child while I work and I watch her child when she works. My unit manager is super flexible about scheduling. Please help!

Have you tried sites like sittercity.com or care.com? I know people have found good nannies through those sites, and I'm not totally sure, but maybe they have a section for people looking for a nanny-share. Another option might be an in-home daycare, as they can sometimes be more flexible. Infant childcare is going to be expensive, pretty much any way you look at it (short of family watching them for free or a low-rate). I have no idea what the going rate is these days (my youngest is 3), but when my oldest was a baby, we lived about 35 miles south of DC, and it was an average of $200-$250/ week for an infant at a childcare center. Also, maybe you can contact the hospital and see if they have any employee resource people (I know that's probably not the right terminology, but I'm just trying to get across the idea, so I hope it makes sense) who can help suggest solutions for the area you live in.
