yes, everything is new to me, but i am absolutely loving my job.
i just have one more night with the preceptor (which is grrrrrrreat!). at first i was upset that she just didn't do anything and just made me do all the work, eventhough i was always late with my charting, and she called the doctor's when i was supposed to do that,....
i feel now that i am one shift away of being on my own, that i feel good and confident that i can do everything! my preceptors name was on the board next to the patients' name, so i erased her name and put my name there! (hey, i do everything for the patients anyways!)
so i guess that approach of learning was good for me, i can't wait so i can be own my own doing my own things, learning time management.... that really no one can teach you that.... eventhough my preceptor said that she was going to work on time management with me; and that was not done.
i love the computer charting system. charting is made very easy there. and i love the fact that we have lpn's, iv nurses, phlebotomists, cna's........ it's a very resourceful hospital. we don't get sign on bonuses, but it's ok because the hospital is that good that people really love it there, and stay there. it is very hard getting a position there. i was very lucky that i worked there as a tech before becoming a nurse. i have two friends who never worked as techs there, with their licences in their hands, applied and didn't get the job there.
but regardless, i love love love my job. i have co-workers that are helpful to me, no one treats me bad or looks down on me. except one time that i got yelled at for no reason by the laboratory tech.... she had such an attitude over nothing. i was picking up a 24hr urine bottle, and she wanted a paper with the patient's name on it. so so so uncalled for... but anyways.
did i mention that i love my job.
working in this hospital is so awesome. i was offered $4000 sign on bonus to work at nights in an adult hospital. i had accepted because hey who gives you that money everyday, to get a job straight out of school, i have to start working anyways!, i ended up getting the money, but soon after i gave it back, because i realized that i already worked at a great hospital (as a tech) and that i did not need to change to adults for any reason.
but pediatrics is my calling. i love love love pediatrics.
kriseh you will love peds.
it's not as bad as people think or how messed up our instructors were to us in clinicals.
peds is actually a lot of fun, we have many job responsibilities, but it is so rewarding to make kids smile, make them feel better when they hurt.....
*sigh* I love this proffession.
I love peds!
I used to work as a CNA for 4 years before becoming an RN. and I worked as a float CNA so I worked everywhere!
I love it at the hospital where I work because all the floors are pediatric floors.
each unit has a specialty. not like in adult hospitals where the peds section is full with all kinds of children.
I told the nurse recruiter to put me where-ever she needed nurses because I just love it everywhere, and it is hard to pick the section where I want to work.
so just out of pure blind luck I got in my section! and it's awesome!!
We have LPN's here, but they stop hiring LPN's on the floors back in 2003. the LPN's that are here are the ones that were here working from before.
they do hire LPN's in the ER in rapid care.
LPN's are great! they help me out and I miss them when they are not here!
anyways, are you going for RN school?
I also love peds. I officially start working next week but I did my peds rotation at the childrens hospital where I was hired and I had such a phenomenal experience. It's not just that you can make a difference in a child's life, but think of how much of a difference they make in yours. I also find that I relate alot better to kids b/c they say what they mean and mean what they say. Everything is black and white for them. It's also easier for me to move children as I am a very small person (to paint a picture I could easily pass for 12 and every adult in the hospital would ask me if I was even old enough to drive..my response: Not only am I old enough to drive, but I'm old enough to drive you to the liquor store and buy you some scotch! that always got a laugh)

Finally, someone with something good to say on this post. This first year post is so depressing to read. Thanks for bringing some life to this dry, dead board. :bowingpur
I love my job too. I am in a ladder program, so I just got my LPN and graduate with my RN in Dec.
I am a little slower than everyone else and may feel lost sometimes, but I just love being a nurse. I have worked so many days since I became a nurse and not just because of the money (which in great
) but I just like doing my job. Everyday I feel like I get better and learn something new and I am just excited to be there.
It's true what those t-shirts say: nursing is the hardest job I'll ever love. I am just so excited about FINALLY being a nurse!
I work in LTC now, but hope to go into peds after I get my RN. I just loved it and can't wait!
