I am wanting to know if a baby born to a mother with diabeties (spelling?) and only at five months into the pregnancy what are the chances of the baby being OK?

Slim to none. It's just way too early, even for the child of a healthy mother, to be born.....I can't even imagine the trouble they'd have with the baby's blood sugars, and that's only one of the many problems it would face. I'm sorry.

Before 23 weeks and the chances of survival are basically zero. At 23 weeks, they are extremely low. At about 24 weeks you have about a fifty fifty chance of survival, but many of the survivors have long term health issues.
Personally I think anyone who tries to save a 23 weeker should be shot.

Well just shoot me then because my daughter was a 23 weeker and yes we did try and save her. And you know what, she's FINE!
Yes I am a NICU nurse and yes I've seen 23 weekers, 24 weekers, 25 weekers that looked like they didn't have a chance who not only survived but are thriving. I've seen the opposite.
Yes I'm over sensitive about that I think that was a cruel thing to say.
I'm sorry if I offended you. It's just my personal opinion that it's generally not good policy to do this to kids we know are 23 weekers and I wasn't talking about the parents, I was talking about the docs. I think they give parents false hope too often and that's cruel.

i am glad you tried :)
AND THAT WAS A CRUEL THING TO SAY THAT
my friend is somplace around 25 weeks give or take a few days I am not exactly sure but the baby has been born and last thing a herd was wasn't breathing but this was from a third sorse so it could be "not breathing well"
Again, I'm sorry for the comment. That's all I'll post on this one so you all can hopefully get back to the issue at hand.

We are all entitled to our opinions. Glad your kiddo is the exception, but most aren't so lucky. We don't have the best technology for these kids. Nuf said.
