I will start a new position where I will be over 2 units. They will be both for inpatient oncology. Anyone who has been over 2 similar units or anyone who had a manager share 2 units, how were unit meetings organized?
I would like to combine them monthly for several reasons. One of them being team building between the 2 units. The other reason is that I could schedule meetings at more frequent times.

PICU and floor peds work really closely together so we get together quarterly for our unit meetings. All other times we are separate. I think its good to bring 2 units together that share a population and staff but its also important to have separate meetings as both units have their own dynamics. That would be my opinion.
I did not even consider that option. Great idea. Thanks.

I like jrt4's response. My department combines two similar units too and I cover both. The staff know each other because of the combined meetings, happy events, and shared staffing at times. However, for moral purposes and to ensure that the staff of one unit does not feel like he/she is attending a meeting that has nothing to do with his/her unit, we (the ANMs), will usually provide shift huddles on both units to disseminate information that is relative to the individual units themselves leaving meetings to go over information that is relevant to both units such as major issues related to the facility as a whole and those that will impact the department as a whole.
