Implant sheets

Published

My hospital has recently gone to EPIC computer system which requires us to put all information about implants-exp. date, lot/serial # in computer, but we are also still filling out paper implant sheets. We nurses feel this is too much repetition, but supervisors says paper form is in case computer goes down. Help! We don't want to have to do so much duplicate charting. What is the rest of the world doing and can you help me with an argument to stop paper charting to take to my supervisor?

At my facility, we chart all of that information, but then we place the stickers that come with the implant on three different sheets: one for the chart, one for the doctor, and one for charges. It does seem repetitive especially in cases that have a lot of implants.

We recently got epic as well. We chart our implants and developed a separate form known as implant log. We just place the stickers on there and this goes with our count sheets/med charge sheets. We supposedly need this implant log paper to make sure we are actually documenting the implant in epic for charging purposes.

Implant info goes in the chart as far as the type of tissue or instrumentation for charging and the serial number and all other info goes in graft tracker.
