Charting in Epic
I've been using epic at two different facilities for the past 4 years. I can document and view my patients chart regardless of where they are at in the perioperative stage. However, I cannot document on something if someone else is in the same section of tab. It will tell you "so and so is in the chart" and my version is read only. I've gotten calls from pre-op asking me to get out of the chart 😂

How much call do you take? How much is to much?
How do you do your call schedule? Do you self schedule your call shifts or does someone assign them? How many people are on your team? Is it scrub and circulate? I'm curious how others do it. Thinking of perhaps revising our call.

CNOR prep
I just took the CNOR exam last weekend! I took a instructor/classroom review course that work had provided for us through CCI. I learned some valuable info though... like what to look for in analyzing questions or specifics that are likely to be on the exam. Otherwise, the materials from CCI were very helpful too. I utilized both the book, flashcards, and practice test. What I found most handy was the CNOR test prep app with 600 questions! I could practice anywhere, anytime. Good luck!!

How do other ORs allocate call
We have recently started using the website Sign Up Genius. It works great on my end (coordinating the call) but some people do not like it because it is a change from the paper version. However, everyone has an equal opportunity even if they are at home or on vacation or at work. You basically create the time slots for the month or however long your call calendar is for and then you "invite" everyone via email and they have a username that they then sign up for their slots. Call goes like crazy now!! People are in their phones signing up the instant the email goes out. I highly reccommend.

Transplant Team in your OR?
I would say we are a major transplant center in our area. We have a dedicated liver team and they take their own call and don't do the main OR call. They will do these cases if one happens during the day otherwise they do their regular specialty cases (some are vascular techs, thoracic techs, general surgery nurses or techs). Anyone in the OR can scrub a kidney transplant.. However they obviously prefer someone that knows what they are doing. Also, technically anyone can scrub a single lung transplant too. Cardiac team members are the only ones that can do a heart transplant or double lung transplant and they take their own cardiac call. And no. They are not compensated any differently. They tend to take more call actually-- and for longer periods at a time compared to the main OR call requirements.

Implant sheets
We recently got epic as well. We chart our implants and developed a separate form known as implant log. We just place the stickers on there and this goes with our count sheets/med charge sheets. We supposedly need this implant log paper to make sure we are actually documenting the implant in epic for charging purposes.

Tattoos/Piercings in the workplace?
My tattoos do not effect the way in which I care for my patients or my work ethic. I don't understand why it matters so much?!

What salary is fair for a NEW RN grad?
I recently graduated in the same area. Most new grads are being paid between $27-29/hr from what I have seen in the area. A little less about $23-25 in the Lehigh area. Also, I personally don't believe it is professional to negotiate salary, especially if you are at a well-established facility. It is what it is.

Pre-Employment Pharm Test?
did you have to just do calc questions or did they ask your specific medications and what they are for?

Disgusted - wipes for bathing
we do the same, and i love it!! they are less fussy than basin baths but I still think they do a great job if you use the right proportions of water and soap.
