Starting point would be getting registration started with the state board of nursing. Once that is started you then need to find employer willing to go the green card route. I would also suggest if your mum is a USC then also start process of sponsoring you as that can take over a decade. If you read the MA state forum you will see that Boston is a very hard market to get into even for experienced nurses.
One thing need to make sure is that your transcripts have both clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult as US nurses are general trained
Thank you silverdragon102. I have read several things about Boston being a very competitive market. And will take your advice on getting my Mum to start the sponsorship process. Do you know where I can find out how many hours I need to have in paeds, mental health and obstetrics as I have had some experience in those areas but it is quite limited. Thanks again
Thanks for the info and sorry for the late reply. After a lot of research I have started the certification programme with CGFNS and have just requested my transcripts from university. I'm hoping that I may just have enough hours in obstetrics, paeds and psych to satisfy the US requirements. Do you know of any way to top up my hours in these areas if I'm under?

Hi,
I am an English nurse working in the UK and am hoping to find work in the Boston area. I lived in Boston for 10 years growing up and my Mum and brothers still live there. I had a green card but had to give it up as I have been living in the UK for the past 15 years so I am starting from scratch again. The entire process seems very complicated and daunting. I wondered if anyone who has gone through this process could offer any advice
Many thanks in advance
