Im So Sick Of Hearing...

Published

Hello, I'm a student taking prereqs for a BSN program, but for some reason everyone and their dog feels the need to tell me to do something else because "nurses have too many people tell them what to do". I get really tired of hearing this, especially because it comes from people who, i believe, don't have a clue.

Does anyone else out there get that at all? Have you ever been told to do something different because as an RN you'll have too many people barking at you.. and practicing RNs- do you at all feel sometimes you should have done something different so you could more or less, be more of "your own boss"? I'd love to know!!

THANKS!!

It really doesn't matter what career path you choose, because you will always have to answer to someone. Whether it is your immediate Supervisor, the Board of Directors, the stockholders, or Uncle Sam.

You need to do what you enjoy!

Shoot...How many jobs are out there where u graduate with a BS or AS and start making 50k. My fiance has this nice BA degree and still works at a department store..If you want autonomy, start a business, IF YOU WANT A CAREER become a RN. With that title comes respect!:)

Specializes in cardiac, diabetes, OB/GYN.

You have all the autonomy in the world if you know your stuff..If a doc tells me to do something that I either disagree with or know is not supposed to be, I have no problem communicating that I either will not do it, or have them do it themselves or delegate otherwise...That comes with time and isn't always necessary....
