I cannot believe this... only four more days of clinical left in my first semester and I am so sick! It started last night with head cold symptoms; today I have a temp of 102.7 and I think I have a sinus infection. I am so miserable right now.
I called my clinical instructor to see what she wants me to do. I honestly don't think I should be around pts (you know that point when your nose is constantly running and if you sneeze... forget it!)
I did attend lecture today and I don't think my classmates were too thrilled to have me there :uhoh21:
I just wish I could fall asleep and sleep for days...
Don't worry yourself, Michelle. If your program is like mine, the clinical instructor will make the recommendations to the nursing dept. THAT is the instructor that knows you and your skills best.
One woman in my clinical group missed 2 days, and our policy states only 1 can be missed, and will have to be made up. She is making up both days, at the cost of $50 each day, so there are exceptions to the rule.
Honestly, I think they KNOW people may miss more than 1 day, but they must have a policy so SN's don't blow off clinical like they may lecture. I'm sure in your case, with being so ill, they will take that into consideration. Why lose a great student because she was ill? They won't - you'll probably have to do the make-up days, but that's it. It would be very, very foolish for them, or any school for that matter, to drop good students because they were ill for a week, and trying not to expose ill patients to even more germs.
I hope you feel better soon!
