I'm in Los Angeles county, can't find clinical home for community/population class

Published

Hello everybody, I am in WGU's RN to BSN program. I am currently having trouble trying to find clinical placement for the community health and population focused nursing field experience class. I am very frustrated because my place of employment which is a small private company won't let me use their facility as HQ. I have called many clinics and used the "how to approach clinical" template and still can't get a YES! I am still waiting on Red Cross, but their coordinator is currently on vacation. I am so sad because it will be the only class I need to finish off my BSN diploma. I might drop WGU just because I can't find a clinical home. Has anyone had any luck or know of places where I might be able to use as headquarters? Thank you! I am desperate and depressed at this point. I will even travel outside of LA county.

Have you called all the hospice providers in a 50 mile radius from your home? How about methadone clinics? Home health companies? Churches that employ parish nurses? Have you attempted to deal with LA County Public Health? Would you be willing to shadow a school nurse to accrue your clinical hours?

I think you are throwing in the towel too quickly. The aforementioned settings and specialties all fall into the wide realm of community based nursing. Good luck to you!

Hello! I have contacted a few hospice providers, but not all of then. I have contacted LA county and they stated they do not have a contract with WGU and will require a background, livescan, and probably more. I will keep looking. Thank you. Yes I would love to shadow school nurses as well. Never thought about methadone clinics either.

How about the hospitals WGU is contracted with?

I know a couple of students that used a fire department with the disaster planning topic. Are you on the Facebook page? There are several California grads that might be able to help.
