Hi!
I am very confused about 2 IM injection sites:dorsogluteal and ventrogluteal.
I know that both are given in the butt, but whats the difference between those 2 sites. How to locate them?
Thanks

Dorsoal: with the pt lying on his stomach if possible, draw a mental line horizontally from the coccyx to the side. Then draw a vertical line down the center of the buttock. The upper outer quad is your site.
Ventral: I don't know how to describe that one without physically showing someone.

Is dorsogluteal still an acceptable site? My school is only teaching ventrogluteal d/t the risk of sciatic nerve damage but I don't know if there's evidence of that ever occurring.
