What state are you in? Are you willing to relocate? I wanted to go into NICU after graduation and the only 2 Level IV NICUs in the state were not hiring, so I expanded my search nationwide. I ended getting a Level IV NICU job in another state. It all depends on your current situation and how far you are willing to go to get into a hospital.
I live in Massachusetts and have a husband and two kids which makes it very difficult for me or us to relocate. If I had the chance to do so, I definitely would. Even if I was at least given the chance for an interview and a job, I would go back for my BSN but scared if I do it would be a waste of time and money for me, if I still did not get into a hospital. Makes everything so difficult bit thank you for your reply and input. Greatly appreciated!

Massachusetts is one of the states where the BSN has pretty much become the entry level degree for nurses in hospitals - I live in MA.
The job market is tight to begin with in MA but it gets even worse when you want to work in a hospital. There are many nursing programs and new graduates without a BSN do not have much of a chance to go into a hospital, it has been like this for years. In addition, nursing in an acute hospital is usually high stress as most hospitals seem to under staff or brought the nurse to patient ratio up or have less CNA now - after economy went downhill 2007/2008 a lot of hospitals cut back on staff and continue to use economy as an excuse for terrible staffing. Patients in the large hospitals are pretty sick on a med/surg floor nowadays - tele floors burn through nurses like nothing else.
Home care and home hospice ca burn you out when the case load is high and they push visits on you.
A BSN will open more possibilities for you in MA - it will not guarantee you a job though.
I understand the need for something different, new, more acute. Unfortunately, again you have to appeal to hospitals. Nurses with a BSN are more appealing than ADNs. Nurses with past acute experience are more likely to get called for interviews than those that have been working non-acute. Use connections if you have any.

Hi! New to this site and posting anything here. I'm a frustrated Nurse who has not been able to get a job in a hospital. I've been a nurse for almost 6 yrs. and worked in LTC, Hopsice Care, and most currently in HomeCare. Unfortunately, I'm already feeling burnt out. I thought this should not happen until I was able to say "I've been a Nurse for 30 years".
I know sounds crazy but true! I have contemplated a million times going back for my BSN but only if it could 100% guarantee me a hospital job. And I don't think that'll happen. Almost feel
like I want to leave the Nursing field sometimes because I Always had that dream of being an ER Nurse and/or at least getting my skills and experience in a hospital, where I'd really learn. It all seems so backwards. Can't get into a hospital but can get hired by any homecare company and send me out on my own when I'm not even 100% sure I can handle all situations. Anyone else in the same boat? Just curious! Thanks in advance!
