Hello,

Have you been accepted yet?

For me it was much, much easier to get accepted to Prairie St College's program, (first try) due to the time line and pre-reqs and hoops and ladders that SSC makes you jump through.

I have not really heard wonderful things by former SSC RN graduates about their program, at all.

However, if you go, you will see a picture outside of the nursing office of some phlebotomy students...I am the tall one with short hair. :) Got my Associates there in Biology and transferred to St. Xavier then on to the MS entry program at Depaul, (hope to graduate in June).

Good luck whichever route you choose.

I heard they revamped their program. They were in the process of being put on probation a couple years ago due to their pass rates. Not sure if that is true or not.

I agree about the hoops they make you jump through. I couldn't believe some of the stuff that my friend was telling me about. It seems people don't know if they get in until days before it starts. When you start nursing school I think it's something you need to plan into your personal, work, and family life as most people have some types of other commitments.

Try to find out what you can from the school. Good luck!

I agree with the hurdles... I called there last year to inquire about the program since the catalog doesn't give you much info. After calling 5 times with no reply to my voicemails, I called and got thru one day. When she gave me the list of things required just to apply, I couldn't believe it! Among them was the CNA certification required. When I made a comment to the person on the phone about how a lot of Universities don't even have those requirements (and other colleges as well with far more superior programs and reputations), she had the nerve to tell me that I was mistaken! She said she hasn't heard of any colleges, and definitely no Universities that did not have that requirement. I thanked her for her time and crossed them off my list.

I did have to get my CNA before getting in the program. We will see if I get in this Fall. Hopefully I will because I busted my butt on the prereqs.

SXU requires everyone (except the LPN to RN people) to have their CNA before clinicals.

What is SXU maybe Ill google it.

saint xavier university. they have a great lpn to rn bridge program.

I got accepted to UIC for this Fall's BSN program and there was no CNA certification required- and UIC is the #1 nursing program in Illinois and #3 (or 4 I can't remember) in the US. If I didn't get accepted to UIC, I would've been applying to Rush, which also has no CNA certification requirement.

UIC I heard is a really hard school. Congrats on being accepted!

Thanks lizzyette! And I will be crossing my fingers for whichever school you choose!

SXU, (my undergraduate university-not in nursing- which I am very fond of) may require the CNA but not "all" universities do.

DePaul for one does not.
