I attend Resurrection University -- Ask me your questions!

U.S.A. Illinois

Other threads about Resu applications had a lot of questions for me and other students about the program that are more personal, not technical, such as what it's like, the difficulty, etc. Rather than derail an existing thread and going off topic, I started this thread so you can ask me your questions.I just started at Resu in the daytime BSN in fall 2012. I love it! It's a lot of work but so far it's about what I expected. Please keep in mind I won't have all the answers right now because I just started my program, but over time hopefully I can help you even more.So let's keep this conversation going with your questions or concerns, and hopefully another present or past student will drop in as well!

I commute from home in Naperville which is like an hour away. The apartments in the city are kind of expensive if you were going to go that route. There really isn't any on campus or student apartments like other universities because this school is very small. (Only 3 floors at a small medical center). If you were to get an apartment I would try and look at the suburbs

Hello I am just seeing this post now and I am thinking of transferring from cod's nursing program to here! I was wondering how bad was the commute from naperville? I live in Naperville as well and that is a major concern holding me back:/ also how difficult is this program, do you feel you were being set up for success or just thrown information? Thank you!!

Can you explain how the teas exam is scored? Is it accumulative? They say a 68 percentage.but what if I score 90s on everything and bomb science do I have a chance. I am so nervous

Hello, thanks for answering question.

I was wondering about the classes timing at Resuerction unversity, like how Long are the classes and if it is every day.

I am currently in the program and commute from Lombard, takes about 45 - 1hour in the mornings. The first semester is difficult, there is a lot of information to digest and I've seen a few people from my cohort fall behind to retake a class. Be prepared to make a lot of time for studying and make friends with your fellow students and you'll do alright.

Depends on the class, some classes are 2 hours and others are 3 or 4 hours. So your day will typically start at 8am class, have an hour break and then another class in the afternoon until 1400 or 1500. Classes are usually 2 or 3 times a week and 2 days of clinicals that go from 0800 to 1500 but may very by location and instructor.

Thanks for your information, I appreciate it. Can you please tell me if we need to buy an apple computer for the classes, also do we need to wear uniform

You will definitely need a computer, whether it's an apple or not doesn't matter. You don't have to wear a uniform to class but you will be required to buy school specific scrubs for your clinicals.

Hi! can you tell me about your experience in the program? Do you feel the teaching style is helpful and the professors want you to succeed? I am transferring out of a nursing program to this program for manyy reasons and one being that i feel that I was not being prepared enough for the nclex, and I was being thrown information. For example my professor would say read chapters 1-20 and make a study guide for us, but we would be tested on nothing on that study guide? I just want to make sure I am making the right decision:/

I am just finishing my first semester, 3 more to go, woohoo! The consensus is that the first semester is the hardest because you're taking 4 classes and 2 of them are pharm and patho. Those two classes are a lot of information but also keep in mind that you are in an accelerated program and that's the nature of the beast. Somewhere about halfway through I felt like I was drowning but I set goals for myself to just make it to a certain point and keep going. After the first semester the work load becomes less, I don't think the classes get less difficult but you are taking only two classes at a time instead of four.

I feel like the teaching is probably the same as any school you will go to, some teaching you mesh well with and some you just don't match up with their style. However, I've never had a problem with a teacher being unwilling to meet for extra help. They don't teach directly to the nclex or ati, but there are ati tests that go with a few courses and are a part of your grade that you'll have to take the week before finals. They have over a 90% nclex pass rate so they must be doing something right.

I haven't had a teacher make us a study guide, but most will have a review and highlight the big ideas of the sections. Its up to you to make sure you know the material well enough to apply it to nursing. I've only had one class were the review wasn't helpful but it was easy enough to figure out what material you needed to focus on without the review.

Whew, that was long but hope it helps. Just remember that it is a 16 month program so at times the info is going to feel overwhelming. That's the trade off you're making being in an accelerated program. Make friends because some peoples strengths are your weaknesses and visa versa, that's helped me a lot. And don't be afraid to ask for extra help from the teachers or go to the review sessions set up by the tutors. Oh and don't go in thinking you'll get straight A's. Don't me wrong, that's a GREAT goal to set and strive for, but I've seen too many people stress out (myself included at some points) because they're not getting an A but they still have a solid B. It is nursing school after all and it's going to be difficult.

Thank you for the long reply! I am so nervous I am making the wrong decision. I am transferring out because the nclex pass rate was a 62% and the graduating rate was very low:/ and I was not happy with the teaching style at all! I knew it was going to be hard but I felt like I was fighting a battle just to pass. I did not feel support from the staff at all! I just do not want to go through that again! any teacher recommendations? Also for the 20 month program do you know if they go through the summer?

Thank you!!

I knew it was going to be hard but I felt like I was fighting a battle just to pass.

It won't be easy, there are review sessions and tutors, use them to supplement your studying.

School goes year round, straight through the summer. You don't really get to choose professors, they just put you in the classes scheduled for your cohort and away you go. Good luck and when it starts to feel overwhelming remember to just keep swimming, just keep swimming.
