Il. Special Ed Medical Review Training course

I am scheduled to be in the next group of 90 RNs to take this 6 week online course Jan 15, 2015. I believe it is required for all Il. school nurses who are not certified by July 2016. The information I just received indicates that it will take 10-20 hours/week of studying along with being graded on what you add to the discussion board weekly. Is there anyone who has been thru it already who can tell me how difficult this course is and how much time it took you?

Yep, and you get an individual educator identification number that you register with ISBE.

I'm also a Chicagoland nurse and our district is giving us the option of just taking the test (skipping the course) or completing the course. I think I'm going to study on my own with the text and take the test. I was wondering if you would know of where I might be able to find the powerpoints everyone mentions. Also, did you find the class to be really helpful? I want to be fully prepared to participate in all IEP & 504 meetings, but am a little intimidated by adding the 10-20 hours of coursework a week (I have 4 little ones at home). Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions you can offer!

It's not at all a helpful class when it comes to IEPs. They are no longer offering the course because they were overwhelmed by how many nurses needed to take it, and that now you can only take the test to be able to do medical reviews for IEPs. I'm not sure where you can find study information, sorry! Good luck!
