If I work in NZ, won't my NCLEX expire?

Hi,im a staff nurse in the Philippines, assigned at the medical surgical ward. I took my nclex last June 10 and passed. I took my IELTS last Spet. 27 and passed. The US is getting more gloomy every day. Im thinking of working in NZ for 2 years,at least while I'm waiting for the processing, Us retrogression, and any related stuff. Won't my nclex expire after a few years? Is it even a good idea if i work in new zealand? Thanks

Your suggestions would be a big help to me.

As long as you maintain your US license then you shouldn't have any problem. If you have signed a contract in the US better to check with your employer that they have no objections to you taking a contract in NZ whilst waiting

You are looking at over five years of an expected wait for a chance at a green card for the US.

You will have no problems with the NCLEX results expiring, they will not as long as you keep a current license in the US. As long as you do not let your license lapse for a period of years, then there is no issue at all.

NCLEX exam is part of the licensing process, and as long as a license is in existance then there is no issue with the exam expiring. Only when the license was never issued can there be any problems, and in that case, one would just go for licensing in another state while the application was still valid.

I moved this thread to the International Forum since it is specific to foreign nurses in this realm. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the info. Im a California NCLEX passer.and being a filipino, i dont have a SSN that they require for me to be able to have a license.

Tell me if i analyzed it right-So, if I only have a an nclex notification letter of passing(which I received to inform me that I passed), will it then expire and ruin my chance of getting a US RN official license????

Pls help

At least you have a back up plan until retrogression is lifted. Good luck

Then you do not have a license and will have to get one thru a state that will issue one. If you just stick with CA, then yes, your results will go away in three years.

Please read the threads that are on this site about what you will need to do to keep those results valid. Much has already been written on the subject here.

ok,thanks. I read the threads. I think it's getting more clear now. If i move/apply my NCLEX to a state like Vermont, I will get the license right? Then I won't worry about my taking and passing the NCLEX exam to come to waste?

I'm a bit confused of where to start in my quest for NZ. I think I overloaded myself on the infos in the net.hehe. Their arguing if they will work with an immigration agency/employment agency or not. I visited nznursecouncil, and i was lost on where to begin the registration or whatever.hehe

Bottomline is, i dont know where to start

We have a few threads ongoing regarding working in Australia and NZ but starting point will be applying to the nursing board of NZ

That is correct, you will need to apply for license by examination to the state that you are interested in and then have CA BRN forward your passing scores to them. Endorsement process does not work as you do not hold an actual license number at this time.

But since the licenses in VT have only a two year validity before they need to be renewed, it is best to wait until the last year of your letter to do anything or you will be just paying fees for no reason. Even those that have just gotten licensed in VT, are finding that their licenses actually expire next March and they will have to renew by then, even though it is only six months. All of their licenses expire every two years in March.

Hope that you understand this now. Please let us know if you have anymore questions.
