If I opt for NY...

If I choose NY for initial licensure, when must I have accomplished the 2 on-line classes ($15 is expensive and i need time to recover from all the mistakes I am trying to correct..) on child abuse and infection? Can I take it when I am in the States already? Is this something everyone must do? Are there other options? Just curious. Thanks in advance!

Before you actually begin work is the only requirement, you do not have to take them before you take NCLEX.

They are required of you and there is no way out of them since you did not attend nursing schol in the US. But you have time to take them.:wink2:

You must take them prior to obtaining your license, if you wish a NYS license. I maintain my NYS license and live in Florida which has different CEU requirements. I take mine thru the NYSNA. You can download their module and test, then go back on line to complete the test and scoring.

Good luck

Most US based nurses will have done the courses before getting their license, but do to immigration that takes months, the actual requirements of the NY BON is that the courses be completed before beginning work. Soemthing again that is very different for most foreign nurses.

Thanks for the help! Really. It is nice to know that there is help available from those who are so far away! By the way... um, Suzanne4, you seem to know a lot about what's going on. Out of curiosity (you don't have to if you don't feel it is necessary), what do you do (when not helping all of us here on the boards)? I hope i'm not being intrusive. Has anyone here ever asked you before? Thanks...

Oops...sorry. Just ignore the double post.

I am actually back in the US working as a travel nurse. At least for right now.

I'm in the middle of applying for NYS licensure. I just talked to the lady on the telephone. You have to take the Child abuse recognition class before you are granted the license, but the infection control can be completed within 90 days of getting your liscence. (ie at the place you gain employment) However, if you aren't going to be in NY or working within 90 days, of course, you will need to take it on line.

Thanks for helping. I can't do NY anymore because we sent our papers to the CA BON already (couldn't retrieve it- sniff- what was i thinking?). I was really asking for a miracle! But it is good to know other options anyway!

Personally for me is not so important were Suzzanne works? Is not enough that she helps us a lot? You can work or can't, Suzzane, you can be in USa or you can be werever, you are an angel and angels come only when the people are in trouble and only if they pray a lot to come an angel.

Thank you Suzzane :blushkiss
