If you've graduated Quincy College advanced placement ADN - I need your advice

Published

Hello Everybody!

I'm starting full-time LPN-RN program at Quincy College this September. Please, share your experience - how was it? I need to know if I can keep my 3-11 shifts during the week. What is the schedule of studies in this program? Any info would be useful. Thank you in advance!

I think you are just matriculated into the full time ADN program that is starting year 2. At least that is what I was told at the end of last semester.

Last I heard we were gonna be in class Monday and Wednesday from 9-12:30. Initially we were also gonna have several Friday labs but the new dean just sent and email stating that those were gonna be encompassed into our Wednesday class.

I just graduated from that program. I worked 3-11 but it was per diem. Some had day clinical, some evenings, some weekends. With your specialty rotation you had to rotate to a different clinical site and day/time.

The only advice I can give you is to be flexible. You are going to need it

Thanks! How many weekends did you have with clinical? And which evening was the least busy? Actually I plan to have one working evening during the week and to work every weekend

Some clinical groups had it every weekend, some only 1-2 Saturdays. Evening clinical was most popular and some sites are an hour-hour and a half away so you have to plan for that.

Well, the full-time program was announced as "students must be available Monday-Friday from 7:00am-3:00pm"... what about those students who can't make weekends due to some other reasons - religious reasons for example?

They didn't care. The same was announced to us. But since their clinical sights were so limited, they told us to take what we could get. Or drop out. Bc there's plenty of people on the wait list who would do what they wanted. It was true too, everyone that complained sucked it up and took it.

As I said I was the full time program, I was told the whole two years to be available between 7-3pm. I never once had a day clinical. Always had evenings and weekends. Most of the people who got day clinical didn't have a car or a license and needed to take the T. So those of us responsible people got punished most of the time and got awful times and sites.

If you email ***** she will tell you that they will work with you but can't promise anything. We ended up not getting our assignments until the week before school started. Awesome for daycare and job purposes.

I see, it's pretty tough. How did you guys manage to study and work?

Or most of students haven't been working?

Most of the students worked per diem. I did it because I had awesome friends and husband that helped out with my daughter. This program just has to be the priority for the next year, but it will be worth it. Out of 92, 60 of has have passed our boards and only 2 have failed. The tests are unreal. I used to study for two weeks before each test, and for 12 hours for 3 days beforehand.

Wow... do you mean that 30 out of 92 dropped out before the end of the year?

I've completed all core curriculum classes. What is left - concepts of client care with Lab and clinical hours.

I hope this helps a little.
