Nurses General Nursing

As a new grad RN myself, I am always curious about what experienced nurses would want to tell a younger version of themselves.

If you could give one piece of advice back when you were a new grad RN, what would it be?

No matter how much you love your job, you are replaceable. Enjoy what you do, but don’t make it your life. (Lessons hard learned in my younger years!)

This!! As a Nursing Student this concept is already instilled in me working as a CNA

Leave work at work - use healthy coping mechanisms so you don't let new nurse stress and anxiety start impact your life outside of work! I used to have a mindset where I let my career solely define who I am. I would think, "I am a nurse". With that mindset, it felt like nursing was my whole life and I thought about it all the time outside of work. Now, with a few years experience and some perspective, I remind myself of all the other things I am. Yes, I am a nurse...but I am also a sister, girlfriend, student, friend, etc. This mentality gives me such better work-life balance and sanity.

Also, there is a whole world of nursing outside of hospital nursing! ?
