IENs jobs in Canada

Published

What are the jobs of IENs in Canada? Did you take up some programs to have certificates in order to have a job that you want like Health Care Aid or Nursing Attendant? We all know that the process for RN is way too long. So while waiting, what are your current or previous jobs?

I am also an IEN and to those who are already LPN or RN, can you also share your experiences about your previous jobs while waiting for the application process? Thank you.

Specializes in MS, Emergency.

Depends where in Canada are you? Im in BC and here you dont need to study for the health care assistant position (care aide) but you do need to register as care aide. Registration requires assessment from ICES. Most authorities now require care assistants to be registered. Private ones may or may not. A lot of IENs i know worked as care aide or LPN while they wait for their RN registration.

If you plan to work as an LPN you need to apply and take an examination.

Others also worked as home support.

I am an IEN and I did starbucks though :)

I'm in Alberta and I am having a hard time finding a job related to health care.

I am an IEN, too. Here in Manitoba, very seldom do hospitals or personal care homes accept IENs to work as a support worker. You need certification to be able to work as such. Many of the IENs I know take HCA course while waiting to be licensed.

FYI--members need at least 15 quality posts to send/reply to private messages per site policy. Quality messages have substance (not "me too" posts to boost post count). you are almost there.
