IEN as an LPN in Ontario

Published

I am new to this site. Pardon if my query is out of place.

I'm a Registered nurse in the Philippines, 2 years experience as nurse in Riyadh (no license), i finished a 6 month Care giving program in the Philippines, I have 1 year critical care nursing diploma from Niagara College, and IELTS of 7

Question, will I be eligible to seat for the RPN exam in Ontario? I'm hesitant to register as Nurse yet because of other testimonials.

Please enlighten me... Still on PGWP

I think they will. You need to go over with their credentialing.

Did you apply to NNAS to have your education assessed for equivalency to a BScN and PN? If not, that is your first step.

Are you in Ontario now?

I mean can an IEN apply for RPN class?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

I answered your other post

Yes, look on NNAS application instructions, IENs can apply to PN and/or RN.

If you haven't already applied to NNAs, you should get started right away.

All international graduates will need to undergo credentialing whether your a nurse, pharmacist, therapist, etc. Like what dishes said, you need to submit your credentials with NNAS. They need to verify the authenticity of credentials of education. That is your first step to go any further with your questions.

PS. Middle eastern countries do credentialing too but in a very short process through the Ministry. They don't scrutinize credentials there. You can even submit fake credentials without Ministry noticing it. They only uses the transcripts you have on hand and your company contract. Unlike here, they do institutions to institutions.

@albert.the.second, it wasn't necessary to take a care giving program in the Philippines as a BSN program supercedes a care giving program. In regards to the critical care nursing program, I don't know if you are aware but Ontario has several critical nursing programs and the admission requirments for most, is the applicant must be a RN in good standing with the CNO. I am sceptical of the schools that don't have this requirement, as their critical care programs might just be a cash grab for the school.

Thank you blackbee! The program was offered by Niagara College for IEN.

This is my view on this. Any courses you take after you obtain your degree is an added knowledge and continuing education to benefit you and the public. But in order for you to be recognized as an RN or PN. Your original degree needs to be evaluated. I'm saying this based on my understanding when I took my other degree but that's with my physiotherapy degree. I was once an IEPT. When I took the masters program in UBC, it was also intended for IEPT and to those who were granted a bachelor's degree. But I still have to go over with the credentialing process with alliance PT. For you it will be NNAS. Hope that helps for comparison. I know at first it's very confusing but once you have your education credentialed, you'll know the next step.

The program taken at Niagara does not count towards evaluation of your degree.

Thank you blackbee. What if CNO granted me to sit for the RPN exam? will there be a validity of the decision? i mean can I take the exam after 6 months or within a year?
