Hi, I am applying to CA board. I am going to united states on K1 Fiance Visa and will have green card. I just want to make sure, you do not need either english exams for CA correct?

Just because the state does not require one, that is not to say that the facility will not want proof, they have that option of asking for it. A facility can set any requirements before offering a job.

The only reason that you are getting out of taking one of the series is that you are getting a spousal green card, if you were to get one on your own, you would need it for the green card. And if you do not go thru with the wedding in the allotted time, you will need to produce a Visa Screen Certificate...............

i would suggest you to take IELTS since you will be staying in california.

Hi JaniceLM.. did you ever find out if you need to take any of the English exam for California? I'm also here on a fiancee visa and will be getting a GC. Thanks

i think so..acquiring a fiance visa doesn't necessarily mean that u don't have to take an english exam, same is true with the nclex. remember, u are only a naturalized american cit and your native language is still filipino. ur employer would still ask for ur credentials before u can work for them which include those.

The English exams currently are only required if you applying for your own green card. If you will be getting a spousal green card, then it is not required. And even if it is a married coupe coming over, only one needs to have the Visa Screen Certificate, the other is spousal, so they do not require the English exams at this time.

Things are always changing, but CA does not require proof of English for licensure, immigration only requires it if you are getting your own green card, meaning that you are the one that is being petitioned by an employer.

Of corse, an employer can aleays require the English exams, that is something that they are permitted to do. And you will need to be proficient with the language for them to hire you.
