IELTS requirement E3

Hi, I am a registered nurse in Australia. I was born in the Philippines and completed my BSN there. I have migrated to Australia in 2013 and have become an Australian citizen. I am currently processing my NCLEX and waiting for my ATT. Anyone know if I need to take the IELTS to work in USA? Is the IELTS requirement based on country of birth or does holding an Australian citizenship exempt me from an English exam?

Hello,

I guess, you need to take the IELTS. Because, if you have a diploma from non-English speaking countries and your main education curriculum is not in English, you have to proof about your English knowledge. It is not about your current job or nationality, it is about your nursing school curriculum.
Good luck,
All the best,

Hi TurkNurse,

Thank you for your reply. My course was delivered in English, but I guess will still need them.

Hi,

British Council has sent my IELTS(Academic) result electronically since January 4, 2023 but CGFNS is yet to update my result despite the fact that I have updated my profile with the TRF number and other related details. How long does it take CGFNS to update my english test result on my profile please?

Thank you

Hi FilAussieRN,

I know that it has been a year since this post has been created but I'm hoping to get more information and help re converting Au licence to US. I am from the Philippines too, BSN grad and PhRN, moved to Australia in 2014 studied uni here again for 2 years and now RN since 2016. Just wondering if you've progresses your application or are you in the US already? I just don't know where to begin..

I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you!

Hi,

I am now licensed in NY. Took me 9 months from submitting my application to the NYBON, to them giving me my eligibility to sit the NCLEX. I also took another IELTS exam (as my old one had expired).

I was lucky enough to have an opportunity for a job interview literally days after sitting the NCLEX. I am now currently waiting for my immigrant visa (EB3).

It's a long process, but you just need to decide which state you want to apply for licensing, to begin with. It would be best to apply for states that don't require SSN as it would make life so much easier.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi,

Apologies for the very late response. I hope your VS is finalised by now?

CGFNS does take time to acknowledge the documents, but they are quick once everything has been sent. They are also responsive when you make enquiries.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply! I am thinking of NY too cos I think it is the easiest? Do you think its better to use my Ph credentials than Au credentials? I have read the Au nurses often get additional requirements due to not having enough maternal/paeds exposure.

Also, do you just apply directly to NY BON? I havent started anything yet.

thanks again.

It changes from time to time as to which BON is "easy" and has a quick turn around. When I applied, NYBON was popular as they were quick to process initially. But then as word got out, they had backlogs + delays due to the influx of applications. In the months leading up to my application, forums said NY only took under 6 months, however mine was a lot longer (and that was even with regular follow up). So I suggest just doing a bit of reading and googling, even getting in touch with processing agencies in the Philippines to get a "feel" of the current trend.

Re credentials, I would suggest only using your Ph degree as it is more similar to the US's curriculum and it is "tried and tested" to be sufficient. They won't even need your AU university credentials for licensing - keeping it straightforward is key. They only technically require your BSN course details (diploma, RLE, transcript). I didn't include post graduate credentials etc.

Hope this helps. Happy to discuss more queries you may have.

Thank you again. I really appreciate you taking time to answer my questions. I was reading through NYBON site and found that they require SSN for licensing application now. Or am I in the wrong application form?

Okay, Ph credentials it is ? Do I need to get anythinf from PRC? I havent renewed my license since moving to Australia.

do you know any processing agencies in the Philippines? Is Avant okay? I will try to contact them and enquire.

thanks again x

Hi,

Not sure about that (SSN for NYBON). I didn't need one. I also don't have a valid PRC license as I didn't renew it since I left in 2013.

I used an agency to file/process my uni credentials to make it easier. There are many of them (Ipass, NEAC, etc) just read their reviews first.

Feel free to email me directly [email protected] It might be easier

I appreciate, it took them 30days to add it, I'm at the final stages of Visa screen and hoping to get an employer to help file EB 3 Visa, I'll appreciate if you can recommend one.

Thank you
