I am considering relocating to Houston. Any ideas what typical ICU pay is for a RN with 1 year med/surg and 1 year ICU experience? Are their any hospital systems that are know for their good treatment of employees? Any that are not? Any info is greatly appreciated!

Do you have a BSN? CCRN? If so, you will be eligible for hire at one of the larger systems. The exact salary will vary depending upon the weight that each organization gives to various criteria (degree, experience, certifications, etc.). Take the time to look at more than just your take-home salary. You should also analyze the value of the benefit package provided. For instance, many organizations have ceased any 'baseline' contributions to retirement accounts... and instead are only providing some sort of 'matching' contribution to 401K or 403B accounts. Tuition reimbursement/assistance is another valuable benefit & this varies quite a bit.

Thanks HouTx! I have my BSN but not my CCRN. I plan on acquiring that within the next 3-6 months. I agree, benefits are a very important part of the picture. However, knowing what a typical base pay is important too. Shoot, even just knowing what a new grad can expect to start out at would give me a better picture. Indeed dot com seems to place ICU RN pay between $60-$70k a year. Does that sound about right?

I am in the same boat as Yuppers21. Will be relocating to Houston (suburbs area, probably the Woodlands) from California in the next year. I am coming in with 1.5 year of telemetry and 1.5 of ED experience. I do have an MSN, but not CEN certified and would like to stay in the ED.

Any idea of the pay range I am looking at? Any info would be appreciated!

Depending on where and what hospital, your probably looking at $28-33/hr, but it really can vary.

I wonder if the pay is negotiable? I've heard people doing that sometimes
