I am a ICU nurse and have worked in ICU for the past 5 years. I am not ready to sit and test for the CCRN but feel that I would be able to pass the CMSRN. Can a ICU nurse test for CMSRN? My facility is requesting that all nurses become "certified" so I felt this would be the best route for me at this time.
I am currently going back to school for my nurse practitioner and can't really put a lot of time into studying for the CCRN at this time. Though it is one of my goals but there is no way I could pass at this time.
Thanks for your suggestions!

I guess technically you could be allowed to take it, but 5 years in ICU, and getting a certification that's under your qualifications seems a bit strange. I could see people looking at that on a résumé and finding it strange. I'd think you should be able to pass the CCRN fairly easily. I'm working on mine right now with almost 4 years of ICU.

I took the CCRN with just at one year of experience in ICU, I didn't really study, and I passed first try. It is not a hard test.
The only thing I studied was the swan numbers, CO/CI/PAWP etc. because we didn't have swans at that job. If you don't take many swans I would recommend studying those, but not much else.
