ICHS 2023 (CA student)

Published

Hi! I'm an LVn (LPN) in CA wanting to do a bridge program to RN this year! Any California students or recently licensed in CA? I know the CA board has become strict with operation nightingale in Florida right now. I heard all FL to CA RN endorsement licenses are on hold?

Anyone have insight?

I just finished Med Surg 1 and this is my 2 take on it and I passed.

The 2 new professors did way more than the previous professors who gave us nothing to work towards. They lectured and left us to guess what our exams would be about.

Our 2 professors this semester both new actually did a review with us about the subjects we were going to be tested on (Not the exam questions and answers), did a diagram if what we were being tested on and told us this is a review, not the questions and answers to the exam and to study the course material as well as review to learn the subjects and practice the math. They said we would get 5 math questions and we got 5. They held nothing back. Way more than what we got last semester.  Med Surg 1 old professors gave no reviews, told us absolutely NOTHING about the exams and gave us questions that had nothing to do with course material so this semester was much better.

If you study hard and learn the material and grasp it and learn critical thinking which is what is really being tested (your critical thinking) then you will at least get a C. Many were already failing with the previous exams so the final did not help. Nursing school is not easy and many want easy. It is not about getting questions and answers to remember. It is about being a nurse and using critical thinking to take care of patients.

Questions came from the Saunders NCLEX review and they gave the link to take the practice exams. I have the newer version with NGN so I did take practice exams.

I also saw questions from the Study Guide to the textbook. I bought it off Amazon along with my textbook and did the questions for the chapters we did.

That is my observations.

Hi do you have a link to the book you got from Amazon ?… or it's just called the Saunders NCLEX review ?… is it a super thick book?… I bought one from a thrift store recently but I'd rather buy a thinner version if possible ...

Saunders is not thin but you redeem the code in Evolve and take practice test when you buy the book new. The code is included in the book. The book has questions also as it gives a better picture of the topics.

Also here is the study guide. If you or anyone Med Surg 1 and 2 would like to get it.

Thank you! I was wondering. Is it hard to get the days you want for clinicals? Or do they schedule you which ever days they want? I'm starting next month and was told clinicals would be end of March- End of May.

My personal experience, it was not difficult to get the days I needed. The clinical team worked with me quite diligently to get all of my days in. It was my own fault for not scheduling sooner, so I sometimes did not have the best timing of days/clinical scheduling...but I just powered through honestly. The team will keep in communication with you to ensure you get all of your days in. I was also fortunate to not have any gaps within my schedule.

Thanks so very much. How far is it from the school?… one thing I'm worried about is I was told I won't know specific dates until 4-6 wks beforehand... I like to plan way ahead of time and that soon if a notice runs the risk of places being booked and flights being more $$$. Is that your experience with the school is not knowing clinical dates until a month in advance ?… im starting next month and will be skipping the first clinical for fundamentals so they gave me a range of Clinicals prob being somewhere between July and sept .

This airbnb is not far from the school. It is about 20-30 minutes from campus. And is central to all of the clinical sites we get sent to. Unless you get the hospitals. Then that is drive all it's own.  You can email me if you have any other questions.  :)
