Ice Packs?

A girl on another board I post on was asking about this, and you guys are the best ones I know to ask!

She's looking for the pads with ice packs. She said she had them with her first child, and they felt wonderful "down there". I've looked at some medical supply websites, but can't find anything? Anyone know who makes them and what they're called? TIA-Andrea

We use the diaper trick. It's convenient ... plus very absorbent ... can be a little bulky but overall works great!

I have racked my brain trying to remember the brand name of the peri ice pak (disposable ice packs for the perineum)...at our hospital. For some reason, the 3M company stands out......Maybe try contacting the OB/L&D department at your hospital and find out the brand name.

SmilinBlueyes probably remembers the brand name......

Those chemical bags dont' last long and cost a lot of money. You are better off making your own. They last longer, are colder and cost less than pennies to make.

Frozen peas work GREAT also---use them for kids' injuries all the time.

when i was home postpartum after a 2nd degree lac, i would put water in a newborn size disposable diaper, then freeze it and presto! i also suggest this for engorgement to my patients.

In childbirth class several years ago the instructor told us the best ones she tried were just plain old Kotex pads soaked in a mixture of witch hazel and other stuff (this was a few years ago, the details are a bit foggy LOL!) and frozen in a bowl to get a curved shape that will conform to your body.

You can make your own cold packs with rubbing alcohol and water.....I think its 3 parts (maybe 4) water to 1 part alcohol. Freeze in a Ziploc bag...nice flexible cold pack. I imagine you could just cut a slit in a diaper and put the pack right in.
