I wish I had of done better

Due to my personal life chaos (sister's death) I ended up with "B's" in A&P1 and Nutrition. Which has brought down my 4.0 gpa. As stupid as it may sound I am really bombed out about it. I do understand that I can't change me needing to grieve; however, I wish I had of worked a little. I did not put a lot of effort in the classes. I felt off kilter the entire semester.

Being that science is the subject that can make or break you when determining if you're a first pick in a very competitive nursing school. How difficult is it for an "A" and "B" student to be accepted into a competitive nursing school?

Hi, sorry about your loss.

To be short and sweet, I'd say B is rather good in A&P. Many students I have known tend to do bad, or even fail, the first time taking this course. I think having a B will still be competitive enough, especially if all other courses you aced. I mean, you could retake the course in hopes of getting A, but I just do not see much sense in it. In short, do not feel "bombed out" about it. You are fine.

So sorry to hear about your sister. Considering your circumstances, I'd say it's wonderful that you managed to pull of B's in those classes! And as far as how it will impact you getting into a program, it just depends on the specific program. Some care more about GPA, and some put more importance on interviews, volunteer/work experience, test scores, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of programs you could get into with B's though, so don't give up.

Thanks to you both for replying. I ended up contacting an advisor at one of the nursing school I want to attend. After the spring term, if I can keep an high gpa (3.5 and up) they will allow me to enroll in nursing school a semester early. According to the advisor, my gpa is good enough for me to enroll early. So I am very excited and I plan to work extemely hard to keep a good gpa.

I'm so very sorry for your loss...I can't even imagine. That you could pull off B's while going through such a profound loss, really speaks to your dedication as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad to read that things are going in your favor! Now try to let go of the bummed feeling. I'm sure your sister wouldn't want you to beat yourself up.
