I would love to get some ideas from all of you! Im not asking you to tell me exactly what to say in my essay( DUhhh), but I would just like some tips;especially from those of you who got into a program after writing a great essay.Should I talk about my life? Is it ok to add humor?

hey I thought that you didnt want to be nurse anymore too? Oh well.
My advice for writing a killer nursing essay , is to be completly honest. i wrote a few, for scholarships and entrance. The one that eventually got me in was actually the shortest, and the most frank, less than 500 words! it pretty much said:
I know I am smart, I know I can commit myself to hard work, I am sick of looking in the want adds, and I need medical benefits for my daughter.
In fact it may have been less than 200 words if I remeber!
But anyway, write an honest answer to the question. Remeber, half the essays they recievef are full of the same fluffy "I want to help people" crap that students write about because they think that is what the administration wants to here. Well, trust me they don't. They spew out that rhetoric all day long , the last thing they want to do is hear it from you! That just shows that you are a regurgitator not an independent thinker. Besides if all you really wanted to do was "help" people, you could go volunteer without 2-4 years of school!!!!
So, in closing, tell them why. if you want to get in because your family or peers are pressuring you, because you have $$$ in your head, because you are bored, because you didn't get in to the other program you wanted, you are hoping to marry a doctor, you are a closet vampire and enjoy the site of blood.....whatever!..that is up to you! Quality is always better than quantity.
anyways, good luck hope you get in.:studyowl:

It seems that, judging from your collective previous posts, that you may not have the solidity (word?) in your gut to "do" nursing. I have no doubts, am 100% positive that I'm choosing the right career, regardless of all the stuff that comes with it. Death, dying, heart attacks, poop and blood....
Think...REALLY think about why you want to be a nurse. If it's for the money, it'll show in your essay. If it's a "calling," that will show.

I would dig deep into your passions here, and describe what leads you into nursing. But do keep it real. Don't be afraid to mention goals and ambitions for the future!
I know...I know...But after giving it some thought I told myself " what are you thinking, you've wanted to be a Nurse since Junior high!!" I don't see myself doing anything else accept maybe OT, but uhmmmm, Im sticking ti Nursing.I think I was just discouraged!

Well, I can honestly say that I wanted to be A Nurse even before I knew what the salary was.If it was really about making big money, I would have gone to the Business industry or medecine( just a few examples).....You know what I mean? Furthermore, I want to be a NUrse not only because I feel it's my vocation, but because I think I can live a comfortable life doing being one.Who would want a career inwhich you have to live paycheck to paycheck? Come on lets be real.If you don't know your worth and if you don't want to be paid the money you are worth, thats your problem.Oh and I have no problem with POOP or blood, its the death/dying that I need to learn to cope with.lol

-You need to say why you want to be a nurse without saying you want to help people. It doesn't need to be dramatic, but it does need to be honest.
- Tell them how you plan to acheive success in their program AND what you have done up until this point to prepare yourself.
- Sell yourself! You need to do this without being arrogant or throwing a pity party. Tell them why you should be picked over someone else (without saying it in those words).
- Tell them what you think you plan on doing with nursing.
- Make your essay fluid, without grammar or spelling errors, make multiple revisions.
You need to say all of these things without making it a list. They want to get a feel for who you are, they want to like you. Make sure your voice comes through.
Good luck.
