I want to be a nurse, but have a possession conviction

Published

So, after a lot of thought, I've chosen to try to turn my life around and try to become a nurse. I have a marijuana possession ticket and an alcohol possession ticket, both misdemeanors, from when I was 17. I'm hoping that I can still get into school, maybe get them expunged and hopefully get a job in the nursing field. My long term goal is to become a nurse practitioner. Is it possible to get hired or even get my license in wisconsin, do I need to get my record expunged? Will I ever be hirable? I made a mistake when I was young, I don't think I can do the math to enter the other field I'm interested in. I don't know if I really have a future and it's scary.

You mostly likely will be able to get into school and get your license simply because of the age you were (17).

How old are you now? Just make certain that this never happens again.

I'm 23 years old.

Good, some time has passed. Best of luck!

Thank you. Going to do the best I can. I also has terrible grades in the second half of highschool. Hoping for a second chance in life...

There is no reason why it can't happen!

Ya, I might have to be willing to move though. I applied at the technical school here. It's up to the places I'd do clinical hours at apparently. I'm going to do everything I can to get in, because out of all the careers out there, nursing seems like the best fit for me.

I learned I have an aunt in Minnesota who's a nurse practitioner. I'm going to start talking with her and see if she has any advice.

You'll be okay I think. When you go for your license just tell the board of nursing about your criminal background and they should issue you your license.
