I am so unmotivated! VENT (Long)

I would really like to scream! I have been doing so good thus far keeping on task. But, this week I had a pediatric rotation. We were required to teach them something, then go back to school and tape an interaction, role-playing as a nurse and a client, and we were to use therapeutic techniques. Well, yay. I did not know what I was doing! Now I have to write a teaching plan, do growth and dev. for the children we observed, write out an interaction recording, and some other "fun" stuff. I have no idea how to do it because we received no guidance whatsoever! Not the teacher's fault, I am not trying to blame it on them. I just don't know where to begin! I have 12 pages of handwritten notes to type out. Why? Because if I don't type them I can't read them! I also have about 10 drugs I need to look up by Monday because I have a quiz. On top of all this I am taking Microbiology also and our next test is 5 chapters long! Two days after that is our comprehensive final! I can't even find time to stay on top of my reading for nursing! I feel like a complete and total failure! How is everybody else feeling at this point? I am sorry I am so whiny but my husband does not understand and when I whine to my dog she just looks at me funny with her head cocked! Oh well. Thanks for listening! :o :sniff:

I am feeling the same way. Although my semester is slowing down, I can't help but feel like I am ready to take a semester off. My work and school schedule conflict so there are evenings I work until 11:30 and then have to get up to go to class at 6:30. And I am not one who can tolerate sleep deprivation. So.... that night I get about 5 hours of sleep, then I come home the next night and need to make up that sleep so I sleep until noon, then I need to go to bed early because I have to be up again at 6:30, but I can't because I slept too late trying to make up for the sleep I lost a couple days ago. So it's a never ending story.

I have 2 papers that I have to have written within the next week and half. The worst part is I have to do exceptionally well on them because if I don't I could possibly not graduate because we have to have papers from our liberal arts classes to turn in to god knows who. and this is the only semester I have of liberal arts classes.

In nursing we are learning physical assessment and I can't seem to do so well with that.

I'm just ready for this semester to be over. Hopefully the next one won't be so bad.

It would be nice if instructors communicated with each other to help organize the student's work load.

- Shoot the dog and get a cat (persian). :)

- Cats understand.

--------

- Seriously, when I feel overwhelmed, I just put the timer on and force myself to push ahead the next hour or two.

- Last night, got off work late (7AM - 8PM Software Engineer). Got up at 12:00AM was at Denny's at 12:30AM and crammed/did notes until 3:30AM. Helped the waitress vacuum the place until 4:00AM (cuz I was bored). Then came on home, hit the bed and at work at 8AM today.

- Basically, I just put a timer on my laptop -- set it for 3.00 hours and just kept plowing along.

- We are doing sperm/ovum creation this week -- the technical aspects of meiosis -- for lab. For lecture, it's the good old nephron and kidney and how these two function in urine formation/production.

--------

- Nothing like going to Denny's to study pee. :)

Wow, John. Now that's what I call dedication! I'm sure the waitress appreciated your help.

Don't throw in the towel. I understand where you're at. I started off strong and now I'm running out of steam. Sometimes it helps to do something nice for yourself even if you think you don't deserve it. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant. Just something that would put a smile on your face and make you feel good about yourself, remember we're gonna be making BIG BUCKS when this is all over:D -at least, that's what everyone keeps telling me!!!Try to make a list of things you know can accomplish and plug away at the list. And guess what if you don't get to everything there's another day!!!(not in a procrasting type of way) Don't be so hard on yourself!!We all run out of steam from time to time. I hope you have a buddy that can help rejuvenate your strength. And if not, allow me-Stop draggin' your you know what, get back on that horse and get to the finish line!!!!CAUSE I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT:D :D :D

Hey Proud2basn,

I am a first semester nursing student (ADN) who just joined this web site today. Just browsing the internet for nursing student chat rooms or something to talk to other nursing students. It is nice to know that we are all in the same boat with the assignments, decreased sleep, stress, etc. I have to agree with "nu2this" about starting off strong and running out of steam. It feels like you are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and then it turns out to be an oncoming train! Hang in there and take the advice of "nu2this" regarding doing something small for yourself - just something to perk you up and make you feel better. You're not being whiny - you just need someone to vent to. It's hard for my husband to understand either. He's trying really hard, though. We're counting down the weeks until I am out for Xmas break and then we start a new semester (with 2 more to go AFTER that!). I procrastinate too (e.g. with studying and care plans!) but then it just seems like the information just all of a sudden starts flowing and/or sinking in if I'm studying! Hang in there! We're all going to make it. Hell, we made it this far to get into nursing school. We just have to remember that there is a goal we are working towards and it will be SO worth it when we graduate! We all need motivation to keep going. Hopefully, corresponding with each other on this web site will help!

Everyone needs a cheerleader in thier life! :balloons:

I seem to have become my classes chearleader! I am the one that keeps everyone motivated with my daily countdown of how many days are left until it is all over. I give everyone a pep talk when they are down. Well let me tell you, I don't do this for them I do it for me! It keeps me positive and focused. Become the cheerleader! It will make you much more focused and motivated. Come into class smiling. Aren't you happy just to be a nursing student. I know I have been grinning from the time I started, two years ago! I love nursong and everything about it. It makes me so happy to finally be pursuing my dream! Don't loose site of that! It will get you through the darkest parts. Just remeber that you want to be a nurse, and the only way to get there is to make it through school one semester at a time!

Good Luck you can do it!!!

Molly
