I took the plunge...enrolled in Excelsior LPN-RN

Well, I was certainly hoping that I would have been finished with the theory portion of Excelsior's ASN program by now, but getting married and buying a house happened, so it naturally got deferred. I'm back in full swing now (passed microbiology with a "B" yesterday...wooo!!), and I have finally enrolled. I wanted to wait until I completed the humanities & sociology CLEP tests before enrolling, but I was told by EC that I would no longer be able to enroll online if over a year had passed since my application. So, here I am, a full-blown Excelsior LPN-RN student. Now for the questions...

On my unofficial eval, my English & Developmental psych. classes were not approved or denied; it had a little note saying that they would be evaluated upon admission. I am waiting for my official evaluation to see if I will need to take these courses/tests through EC....anyone know how long those initial evaluations typically take? I really want to register the CLEP exams, but am afraid that maybe EC made a mistake on my initial eval and some of my previous courses may satisfy those requirements. Did your unofficial eval. differ from the official? I know it is a case by case basis, and maybe this a rant more than it is a question, but I am ready to get the ball rolling!!

My unofficial and official were identical; however, that was back in 2007 under a different curriculum. In any case, I don't recall ever seeing a student complain about them differing here on allnurses, so I think the unofficial is likely to match the official. I'm glad you already have the info about CLEP saving you money vs. EC courses!! If you don't already know about substituting a class for the EC Info Lit, search this forum for information about Penn Foster's English 103, which has been accepted by EC and is much, much cheaper. Congrats on your decision to enroll, and welcome to allnurses!! :)

Congrats and welcome!! Buy as many of your books or study guides off the internet as you can (if that's not what you're doing already). Will save TONS of $$$! Great sites to check are Amazon and ebay. Some of the publishing companies that do books for these courses are The College Network, Chancellor's, RUE. I know there are more but can't remember them all. Just search for those terms and it'll bring up lots of info.

Anyhow, good luck with the rest of your studies!!

Congratulations! I'm just beginning my search for distance learning LPN to RN. I am confused by it all. Any insights you have are certainly welcomed!

Reading previous posts, I would stay away from the College Network, Chancellor's, RUE materials. It's not required. I get my required books from the public library, eBay and I have my previous ed nursing books. Hi Sbelle1! What I did was read previous posts under distance learning and read everything to do with nursing on the excelsior site. Make sure your state BON accepts excelsior.

I have to say I loved the Chancellor's materials for the audio component. However, I bought my materials used. I would never sign a contract with a publishing company, it costs way too much!

I agree. You can find some of the material on eBay.
