what should I do?

I'm having a hard time deciding between the LVN or RN programs at my local college. I've been reading about all the advantages of RN (more options,pay etc.) but with that comes a tremendous amount of responsibility and probably stress too.

I've always been one who takes and follows direction easily and I enjoy being the wing-(wo)man. So I'm leaning toward the LVN program to get my feet wet and really see how I may handle all of the demands. I also realize that LVN's have a great deal of responsiblility as well. Has anyone had a hard time making this choice.

I can't tell if you already have college classes; but, if you do not you also have to figure out the difference in years of school before you start work.

The pay is a wash (starting difference is a buck and hour); but, in the long term advancement advantage goes to the BSN.

Nothing wrong with being a LVN wing-(wo)man... and letting where you work pay for the BSN either....

I agree with Mark. You can have your work pay for the LVN to RN, but any nursing job whether it be LVN or RN is going to take some critical thinking skills and leadership skills. People's health and welfare will be in your hands, and you will have responsibilities.

Wow! Where I'm from the pay isn't a wash. LVN's make considerably less than RN's. Perhaps they are thinking of holding an ADN or holding a BSN. In that case here, there isn't a difference in pay.

I personally would do RN. If you do your ADN, it's just one more year worth of school compared to LVN. The extra year will be well worth it. I know a lot of LVN's and all wish they went for their RN.

If you are not too sure if nursing is the thing you want to do in the long run,LVN may be a good stop to start with,otherwise like PROUD2BERN suggested,I would also vouch you to go for the RN (ASN) and then through your employer's pay work up to BSN or more.

It also depends on the number of course credits you have + your GPA so far. get a fair idea of your chances in a pool of candidates at your school in LVN vs RN program and apply accordingly.
