Congrats!
I'm wondering how to prepare as well... according to what I've read so far on this forum, we should just relax. It's hard, but that's what most people say to do. Spend the summer enjoying yourself :)

Congrats to both of you! I just started my nursing program(RN) in January and love it! It is the hardest thing I have ever done, but just keep telling myself it'll all be worth in the end :)
My recomendation is to start looking @ nursing books now, get familair with what you will need to learn. Another thing that I have grown to love is YouTube! I watch tons of videos on how to do different things on there all the time..very helpful!
Good Luck!

I start summer session and also spend a lot (maybe too much?) time here helping me get prepared. This is what I have done here based on the advise.
1. I have created an electronic file of notes and helpful guides that I have found here on allnurses.
2. Spent some time getting things together. Notebooks, pens, folders, etc. Having this stocked up will make study time so much easier. Also prepared a study area with large calendar and desk space that is only to be used by me and only for studying.
3. Getting house stuff in order. I am married with kids, so I made a list of things we use and stocked up on essentials like toilet paper, soap, toothpaste. Things I don't want to have to run out and get taking time away from studying.
4. Trying to get personal reading done! I know during the next 18 months I probably won't have much time just to read for pleasure.
5. Reviewing Anatomy, Physio and Micro notes. Especially those topics that caused me confusion the first time around.
6. Finally, I have spent most of my time telling anyone and everyone that I am starting nursing school!
Good luck in your program!

Brush up on your A&P, get an NCLEX review book and start practicing on critical thinking and be sure to take time to relax and enjoy yourself before the grind starts

Congratulations to you as you embark on your special journey. I'm finishing my 3rd semester and will graduate in December at the ripe young age of 40. My advice is to enjoy the summer and spend time doing all the things which are important to you. Nursing school will become whatever you allow it to become...either an exciting adventure or Hell on Earth...it's up to you. It will be difficult, emotional, draining, and you'll wonder why all your brain cells died. But, IT IS doable, and the rewards at the end of your journey are immense! Congratulations to YOU!

Congratulations!!:dancgrp:
I start my summer program next Monday(May 3rd) I'm a mixture of crazy emotions right now, but mostly excited.
I also made sure I had everything in order: Childcare, a car checkup to make sure my trasportation is reliable, sat down with my family and came up with a good schedule for ALONE study time where they are only to disturb me in case of an emergency and praticed enforcing it...Just random little things that needed to be done
As far as preparing,I studied up on med terminology, A&P, and brushed over my math skills, and have also watched videos on Utube.
Mostly, I have just relaxed, spent time with my kids, and tried to enjoy my last little bit of sitting around all day in my pj's and surfing the web

Congratulations and good luck! Get plenty of sleep. Pretty soon you will be writing care plans and studying so much that you will have forgotten what a good nights sleep is. It's tough but just keep telling yourself if all these other people can get through it so can I. Don't get behind on you readings, stay focused, prepared and very organized and you will be fine.

CONGRATS!!!!!
1.) Enjoy your summer. Once school starts your life will be totally dedicated it. SERIOUSLY. Figure out all of the priorities in your life and come up with a plan to still tend to them all.
2.) Start looking for a comfy backpack. Your back is priceless in nursing.
3.) Clean and organize your house or room. Nothing adds to stress more than clutter.
4.) Pat yourself on the back because you are about to start a huge venture. It wont be easy at all but you CAN do it. :-)
